Interviewed Nov 2011 in Leeds, Yorkshire and the Humber, England (United Kingdom) (took 2 weeks)
I was first interviewed by phone, having to answer some basic Java questions of average difficulty, asked by a polite project manager. I mentioned directly I had no professional experience on .Net, Spring and hibernate, his response was that: "we are only looking for fast learners". The salary range of the job ad was 25 000 to 30 000 pounds depending on experience, whereas in my CV my desired salary range was from 30 000 to 40 0000 pounds. Thus, I tried to avoid traveling to Leeds. However he did not accept my suggestion of a further video call interview via skype, but insisted on a face to face interview. So I had to fly to Leeds paying about 400 pounds for a face to face interview! Since the fares to fly directly to Bradford Leeds airport were exorbitant, I had to fly to Manchester and get to Leeds by train (25 pounds for the tickets, if booked early). Getting back to Manchester was a mere torture, since the evening train was too crowded to find an empty seat. The Detica offices are in business park, way far from the Leeds city center, that is the Railway station. I had to pay more than 6 pounds to the taxi to get there on time. The nearest bus (444) stop is roughly 10 minutes walk. The first exam step was a 50 min java test of 45 questions. Some options mentioned "compilation error in line x " but there were no line numbers printed in the source code presented, which showed that the test was rather hastily written. I was told not to answer the spring or hibernate section. My score was good, only 2 errors as I was told when the actual interview began later. Some two hours of technical and personal questions followed. When I finally started asking questions, I dared to express my concerns about financial instability, the BAE Systems share price collapsing in the London stock exchange, the restructuring of the company and the many employees made redundant, the interviewers answered diplomatically that these were unjustified rumors of low quality press. The job role was only hardcore coding, since all analysis and design is done by other departments of Detica. A week later I received negative feedback from the job agent, my application for the job was rejected due to showing lack of commitment and low level of command of Java language. A total waste of time, effort and money!

Interviewed Mar 2011 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took 2 months)
First interview very easy and basically pointless. More like a sales pitch about the company. I did lots of talking but simply because that is good interview technique, rather than because it was required. Getting a second interview pretty much a given. First interviewer made out that no programming experience was required. Second interview with two interviewers. Appalling planning by HR team. Second interview quite difficult, asked lots of questions in depth about CV (easy), case study where they had specific things they wanted you to say (difficult-ish), presentation (asked lots of questions throughout, including some extremely banal things, was quite frustrating that they often interrupted for no real reason, though this went well). Turns out the whole thing was a waste of mine and their time since although they liked me, liked my presenting skills, liked pretty much everything (was told this when told the result - though not sure how reliable this was but it all seemed to go well). Problem was that I didn't have enough programming experience so technically wouldn't be able to do the job (despite being told that no prior required - and this was all taught). Complete waste of time really. Company is also quite disorganised (just check out the numerous spelling/grammar mistakes on the website!) Put time into the other big consultancy firms instead is my opinion.

Interviewed Mar 2011 in Gloucester, England (United Kingdom) (took 2 months)
I applied using their online system which was just a cv upload. I received a response within a week confirming they were interested in inviting me to London for a 2 hour interview, and they wanted to know my availability. I provided dates, but they must have had too many responses as the dates I provided came and went so then it was the end of February before I had a date booked (I applied in the first week of Jan).
The interview was really straight-forward, the people seemed friendly and enjoyed working there. It was not challenging - there were no programming questions or difficult scenarios, it was more about finding out what I knew about the business and felt about consulting in general.
I did a presentation based on my third year project, which went really well and they asked loads of questions about that.
I felt confident about the interview, they told me I'd hear within the week but it was more like two weeks before I had confirmation.

Reason for Declining
The job role was not exactly what I wanted, and it was in another part of the UK to what was advertised. It also meant a lot of travelling around, which I would rather not do. Parts of the company seem a little dis-organised as well, which put me off.

Interviewed Oct 2010 in City of London, England (United Kingdom) (took a day)
The first round of the interview was a 45 mins telephone interview, which contained a mixture of CV & competency based questions. The second round consisted a presentation, competency and case. At the end, they said my overall performance was good, but they couldn't offer me a position because they didn't know where to fit me in. I found this overall process was a waste of my and their time.

Interviewed Apr 2010 (took 2 months)
Attended a presentation at university, after which I had a face to face interview the next day on campus- basic job motivation and competencies. After that I sent my CV to HR and had to wait a few weeks before I had a detailed phone interview with a principal consultant. Bit more on competencies and my understanding of the firm and consulting. Had to wait a few more weeks tilll a consultant was free for my 2 hour face to face interview. Had to do a 15mins presenatation with a 30 min Q&A which was very intense on a topic of your choice. Then went through a case study scenario and asked other competency questions- and a lot more about the firm. Got an offer 2 weeks later. Overall a simple process, although Hr took long with processing the applications

Interviewed Jul 2010 (took 4 weeks)
First a 15 minute chat with a recruitment consultant, followed about a week later with a telephone interview with someone at the same level within the company.
Then a formal second interview with two people, one being a senior manager. Unfortunately this interview was postponed four times due to interviewees being pulled away on pre-sales bids, so this took two weeks...
My CV was then passed around internally within the company looking for an appropriate role
