Received and Declined Offer

Interviewed Oct 2011 in New York, NY (took 2 days)
I initially met with two different SVPs for a Marketing Manager position and received an offer about a week later. The interviews themselves were standard and ordinary (describe your background, what are you looking for in next position, strengths and weaknesses, etc.).
However, the offer was presented while I was out of the country on vacation. I tentatively accepted the offer and requested to meet with the core hiring team after returning from vacation before making an official acceptance. After meeting with the core hiring team, I was notified 3 days later that the offer was being rescinded due to budget constraints and that the position was being filled internally.
I've been working in this industry long enough to understand that you don't have a job without proper budgets. However, during the two weeks that I was on vacation (and was rushed to make an offer acceptance), the numbers should have been crunched to determine whether or not a new hire was feasible. Once notified by HR about their decision, it was met by indifference and non-heartfelt apologies.

Interviewed Jun 2011 in New York, NY (took a day)
Greeted by the creative recruiter followed by a series of interviews with several CDs. Felt more like a meet and greet in a relaxed atmosphere. My full portfolio was viewed by the creatives prior to my interview.

Interviewed Nov 2010 in Philadelphia, PA (took 4 weeks)
The interview process consisted of 2 phone screenings by the HR department who had found my resume from a major search engine, then 1 phone interview with the hiring manager, followed by 3 phone interviews, and then a panel of in person interviews that did not include the hiring or reporting manager.
All-in-all, I felt as though through this extensive process, the requirements that had been presented originally for the position were not the skills and requirements truly wanted for the role, and that mixed messages were being presented, (especially when the hiring manager was no longer part of the interview process). I was not surprised to find that we both decided that the position was not a good fit, but I was surprised that it happened so late in the process.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Philadelphia, PA (took 2 days)
I applied for my job at Digitas Health online. Having applied for many jobs in the two months leading up to that point, I wasn't expecting much. But only a few days after submitting my application, a recruiter in Boston called me for an impromptu phone interview. I felt unprepared, but somehow managed to snag an in-person interview.
I honestly had no idea what to expect walking into Digitas Health. So when I took the elevator up and the doors opened, I was in awe. The space is beautiful - bright, creative, bursting with energy. I sat in the cafe area, waiting for my interviewers, feeling a bit overdressed in my gray sweater dress, tights and heels. Immediately, though, I felt like I was in a great place.
I was first interviewed by the woman who would soon be my boss, who is (and was during my interview process) kind, funny and extremely personable. I was surprised by how young she was, but she was clearly qualified for her position. She asked questions about my qualifications, but also inquired about more personal topics. The personal questions weren't probing - just a way to determine if we could all function as a team. I immediately sensed that she and I had a lot in common and hoped that I'd be offered the job on her team.
After the one-on-one interview with her, I was interviewed by another woman who had worked on the team previously. She was genuine and very nice. Again, she was surprisingly young and very cute. And I'd also met her before, which was coincidentally very funny. She asked more questions about my work ethic, my passion for my work. She told me she thought I'd be a great fit and I hoped she was right. We continued to chat and ended up talking for so long that I missed the follow-up call with the recruiter.
Negotiation Details
Honestly, I didn't negotiate at all. I accepted the offer and was quite happy with it.

Interviewed Oct 2009 (took 2 days)
The recruiters here are the worst. I'd been warned about them, but went anyway because it looked like a great place to work if you could get past the incompetent HR/gatekeeper types. They forgot they'd scheduled interviews, hadn't made appointments with the appropriate parties, left me sitting in vacant offices for long stretches of time, then after actually getting to (miraculously) the stage of discussing an offer they dropped the ball and never did explain why, even though everyone I interviewed with was enthusiastic and encouraging. Bizarre, and I know my experience was not unique..

Interviewed Sep 2010 (took 2 weeks)
I walked in and the ambiance was fantastic. Energetic buzz and you can tell that the organization comprises of highly intelligent and skilled professionals in their field who know how to work hard and play hard. The dress code is casual. Receptionists can wear a pair of Jordans, and HR recruiters can wear flip-flops and cargo shorts. Interview panel was friendly, organized and to the point. HR is courteous enough to give you a courtesy call, regardless if it is for an offer or rejection. In my case, I did not receive the offer. Such is life.
