Interviewed Aug 2011 in Lexington, KY (took a day)
I was called to interview with the floor manager for the accessories department. The one on one interview lasted about 30 minutes. She asked questions about my previous sales experience, and experience with meeting sales goals. These were very important to her.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Richmond, VA (took a day)
I was called by a hiring manager to make an appointment for an interview. I was asked several questions on the phone and then set up a time to come in and apply on their computer with a 1:1 interview after completing their application. I arrived 5 minutes early and was directed to the computer. Their antiquated computer slowed down the process of completing their application. This process took approximately 20 minutes. After I finished, I was directed back to the "receptionist". Her attitude was poor. She took my resume and proceeded to read it. I asked if I should take a seat and await the interview. She said all the managers were in a meeting and she didn't know when they would be finished. I replied that I had an appointment for an interview. She said I could wait an hour or more, or I could leave......she "didn't care". I left and went home and wrote a letter to the store manager expressing my dislike for their hiring process. I told him that it was the most unprofessional situation I had encountered in my job search and to remove my application and resume from their records. That was over a week ago and I have not heard back from anyone in that company.

Interviewed Jan 2010 (took 2 days)
You go in an use their computer to fill out all your information. At the end there is a questionnaire that you fill it, it takes a little more than 30 min. They ask a bunch of questions that rate your personality type. If you make it in the range that they are looking for, then a sales manager looks at your application. If they want you for their area, they call you back for a 1:1 interview. They asked basic interview questions. If they like you, they will tell the assistant store manager, and then you will get called back for a second interview. Some locations vary a little but for the most part this is the process they follow.

Interviewed Nov 2011 (took 3 weeks)
Recruiter was very polite and kept a consistent and open communication, which was very helpful because the positions she offered were out of town. After setting up the first 1:1 interview recruiter called back within 48hrs to give an update on the interview and quickly tried to set up the 2nd interview. This company prefers 1:1 interviews and does not pay for traveling or relocating expenses. 2nd interview was with director of company, which was a bit intimidating but at least approachable to talk to.

Interviewed Jun 2010 in Lexington, KY (took 2 weeks)
One interview consisted of a one-on-one with the store manager and the assistant store manager. It was pretty basic, consisting of sales-based questions about my past work experience. They wanted to know a lot about sales, and much less about merchandising. Another interview was with the store manager and a district manager. This was just to finalize the process and touch base about the pay, etc.
Interview Questions
Negotiation Details
No negotiation was possible. It was very laid out on paper and much of the pay was based on commission and bonus potential anyway. This interview was for a cosmetics position, so the base salary was low, with much potential for bonuses based on overall department sales and commission based on personal sales.
Other Details
I got the interview through an Employee Referral and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview and a Background Check.

Interviewed Mar 2009 in Chandler, AZ (took a day)
I was called by a former co-worker that had been promoted from my previous store location. I had since left the company with no intentions of returning. This Manager had been given a department with more problems than lipstick inventory. Being the smart cookie that she is, she had a very short list of people she wanted to help her fix her department. I was one of the party of 3, and the only one not currently working for the company at her pre-promoted location, so I got the first phone call. She laid out her challenges for me, which I was familiar with through the grapevine, and laid out her plan and my role. Then the dance began. She worked every angle she could think of to convince me to return to the company at the new location (which was one of the pros in the conversation). I wish I had a recording of it, because when push came to shove, we both knew what her trump card was going to be, and sure enough, she played it and won. She's a manager who knows her people, she appealed to my sense of loyalty and friendship. She asked me to do it for her, because she couldn't do it without me. How can you say "No" to that? You can't. After that, I had a 2 minute interview with another area sales manager that said " if you're good enough for her, you're good enough for me!", no questions asked, and then I met with the store manager for what was just a bull session for about an hour and we talked as if it was a done deal that I was onboard. After that, I went downstairs to check out this "problem" department. Seriously, I could already feel the hostility on my ankles as I was coming down the escalator radiating from the sales floor. What I saw was the last cosmetic department that I'd ever want to shop in with a sour puss, atop a rigid stature, regimentedly stationed at every cosmetic bay lined up the middle of the sales floor from the bottom of the escalators to the front of the store and all pusses were staring me down. You could cut the hostility with a knife. What did I get myself into?

Don't be afraid to walk out. At the time I accepted this position, I had my husband's voice yipping at me to be employed and I made a fatal error because of it. Even though I had more than 8 years with the company and had only been gone for a little less than a year, they did not put me in the system as a re-hire. According to management, that was not do-able anymore, everyone had to be new hires (after so many years, I have a tendency to not believe this to be true. I've seen so many "impossible" things done in the system here and there when they wanted it done, that I'm a bit jaded.) As a new hire I would have a review in three months as opposed to after one year. At my pay rate with no clientele at my new location, I was screwed and I knew it. However, I also knew that my manager promised me she'd keep an eye on it (when I voiced my concern about the new hire, she was concerned too) and make sure she had me wherever I needed to be to make my numbers. Barring any unforseen circumstances, everything should be fine....Ah ha! Unforseen circumstances! Surprise! Surprise!

Interviewed Oct 2010 (took 2 days)
Very simple...I used and in store kiosk to apply. I was called in the next day for the one on one interview with the store's ops manager. Questions were basic. She just wanted to hear about my employment experience at the previous Dillard's store I had worked at and explained any differences in how they operated. Everyone in the executive office area was welcoming, so that calmed my nerves a bit. Management is friendly and makes you feel comfortable.
