Interviewed May 2012 in Charlotte, NC (took 3 weeks)
Interviewed with the Store Manager at Northlake Mall in Charlotte, NC, along with some female Department manager. I was pretty much told I was hired. We discussed what my pay per hour would be (I think this is where things went wrong as I asked for $12/hr. I could tell the store manager was reluctant to agree to this pay, by his facial expressions). Anyhoo they said after my background check cleared, I could begin training.
That was well over two weeks ago, and I have called several times since, and all they they can tell me is that my background check status is "pending" and they will call me back once it has cleared. Yea...ok..
They basically went with somebody else who they either liked better or was cheaper labor. I didn't really want to work there that much anyway, but got into financial jam recently, where I really could have used the extra cash. I would have only worked through summer before most likely leaving but nevertheless, I feel that they could just been honest. I realized after speaking with some former coworkers of mine that used to work there, that they are one of the worst retailers to work for because they slash your pay if you don't make goals (which is very likely considering they rarely have sales and sell the same stuff as Macy's and Belk that's 50% not including coupon promotions)
So..beware to those of you who leave the interview thinking that you have gotten the job. Don't get too excited unless your background check has cleared and you have come into fill out new hire paperwork.

Interviewed Mar 2011 in Arlington, TX (took 3 days)
Application was smooth, dated, somewhat impersonal. Made regular application plus a personality test at a computer kiosk in-store. No online application possible. Called up the next day, interviewed the following day by the assistant store manager plus the shoes manager. Mostly an effort to determine my personal charisma, I think - whether I had a 'sales personality'. Go in with confidence and excitement about the job. The smallest amount of sales experience is a big bonus in getting an interview. Personally I had 2 months p/t experience with Banana Republic beforehand. Was invited back for later that day to interview with the store manager, who treated it as an opportunity to tell me his vision of the company, and was I interested in that vision.

Interviewed Apr 2012 in Tampa, FL (took 5 days)
I went in during a week day. I introduced myself to one of the managers and discussed with her that I was seeking employment. She had me write down my information and she would get in touch with me in a day or so. She called, and we scheduled an interview for the following morning. It went great! After the 1 on 1 interview she had my fill out the application on the computer. After I was done, we talked some more.

Interviewed Jan 2010 in Flagstaff, AZ (took 1 week)
When I submitted my application, the Assistant Manager and the Men's Dept. Manager were having a meeting. They both quickly looked over my application and introduced themselves. Then the Mens Dept. manager took me to the Children's section and asked me what I would do to improve this area. The closest thing to me was a table of jeans, I said, "these are folded poorly, so I would refold them and resize them." I also noticed that a discounted sales rack was on the aisle. So I said, "I would move discounted merchandise to the third position (near the wall), and put new full priced merchandise on the aisle." He smiled, told the Assistant Manager he wanted me, and I was hired.

Negotiation Details
While he was interviewing me he mentioned that there was an requirement, which was to sale 80 dollars per day. So when it came down to actually working it was completely changed to sale 1500 dollars per day due to me starting off with 9.00 dollars per hour so i was lied to from the beginning of the experience to the end.

I was called to interview with the floor manager for the accessories department. The one on one interview lasted about 30 minutes. She asked questions about my previous sales experience, and experience with meeting sales goals. These were very important to her.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Richmond, VA (took a day)
I was called by a hiring manager to make an appointment for an interview. I was asked several questions on the phone and then set up a time to come in and apply on their computer with a 1:1 interview after completing their application. I arrived 5 minutes early and was directed to the computer. Their antiquated computer slowed down the process of completing their application. This process took approximately 20 minutes. After I finished, I was directed back to the "receptionist". Her attitude was poor. She took my resume and proceeded to read it. I asked if I should take a seat and await the interview. She said all the managers were in a meeting and she didn't know when they would be finished. I replied that I had an appointment for an interview. She said I could wait an hour or more, or I could leave......she "didn't care". I left and went home and wrote a letter to the store manager expressing my dislike for their hiring process. I told him that it was the most unprofessional situation I had encountered in my job search and to remove my application and resume from their records. That was over a week ago and I have not heard back from anyone in that company.
Reason for Declining
UNPROFESSIONALISM in Dillard's management

Interviewed Jan 2010 (took 2 days)
You go in an use their computer to fill out all your information. At the end there is a questionnaire that you fill it, it takes a little more than 30 min. They ask a bunch of questions that rate your personality type. If you make it in the range that they are looking for, then a sales manager looks at your application. If they want you for their area, they call you back for a 1:1 interview. They asked basic interview questions. If they like you, they will tell the assistant store manager, and then you will get called back for a second interview. Some locations vary a little but for the most part this is the process they follow.
