Interviewed Nov 2009 (took 2+ weeks)
Received a call from a Discover Recruiter regarding an open position. Had a phone interview with the recruiter. The recruiter asked me about me current experience and qualifications and talked a little about the possible positions' requirements. The Recruiter was extremely friendly and professional and said that I was a good fit for the position. Referred me to the Hiring Director. Met in person with the Hiring Director (along with an HR Representative). That interview portion didn't go well. The Hiring Director was very short with their questions and responses. The questions were extremely vague and then when I responded they said that they meant to ask something different. Repeatedly asked why I had applied for this job (as thought I didn't have the qualifications necessary). I had to tell them that I had been contacted byt THEIR recruiter and was not actively searching out job opportunities. After that interview I had another interview with another Director. That interview was completely different. Talked about personal strengths and career accomplishments and goals. A very upbeat and open interview. I recieved a call back a few days later setting up a 4th interview with a Vice President. This interview was open. They asked what I would implement upon receiving the position. Talked about what they were looking for in this position and reiterated that I was a good fit. Ended the interview with questions about follow up required. The V.P. told me that I would hear from them within 2 weeks. Near the end of the 2 week time period I contacted the recruiter to see if there was any progress. They notified me that they had chosen to pursue another candidate.

Interviewed Oct 2009 in Riverwoods, IL (took a day)
The interview was on campus, and consisted of a half hour case interview, and another half hour of behavioral questions. The case component centered around coming up with strategies, downsides, benefits, and general things to consider about strategies associated with how to contact customers who were behind on payments. Finally there was a very specific case with a series of probabilities. I was required to calculate the overall probability of success of a strategy based on these probabilities. Grab a pen, and focus, and you'll be alright.
The second half of the interview was behavioral. Started with the walk me through your resume, why Discover, why this position, and then the behavioral questions.
I actually thought the case that involved the probabilities was fairly difficult. Definitely felt a little dry as well. Not a very exciting introduction to the financial services world, and definitely the most technical interview I had of the 8 places I interviewed.

Interviewed Aug 2008 (took 4 weeks)
The interview process is strange at discover in that management is completely reliant on hr for everything. Hr feeds them the resumes of all candidates hr feels are qualified, while this doesn't seem that out of the ordinary, it did take my resume 2 weeks to finally get to the hiring manager (I only know this because I was an internal candidate and knew the hiring manager). I eventually went through 4 interviews, one conducted by someone who would be in a position below me. A few days after the interview I was told by the hiring manager that I got the job and that hr would contact me soon. 2 weeks later they finally told me! The process is extremely ineffiient.

Interviewed Jul 2008 (took 2 weeks)
The initial step was contact by phone from one of the recruiters, followed by a screening interview with the same person. Planning was ok but the person who organized the interviews was not there on the day of the scheduled interviews and didn't let me know that. Interviews weren't too bad overall. Everyone seemed decent enough. Office campus is fantastic.
