I made a mistake of putting what I really wanted in salary on my application. I ignored the age old rule of putting down "negotiable". Luckily the person hiring knew I was good at my job and liked me or this could have gone south in a hurry. I ended up getting very close to my original low end number and will be where I want to be in a couple of years.
