Interviewed Sep 2009 (took 2 days)
both the intervew and hiring process were amazingly simple. Designed to be manuvered by even the least educated of applicants.
the hiring manager would review the paper application (no online applications here) then call you in for a one on one interview in a cramped back office/camera room interveiw.
basic skills not nessesary but 'prefered'
smile greet count scan bag lift up to 30 lbs upon occasion
a common sence multipul choice/ rate from 1-10 personality aptitude test will be administerd in office.
then paperwork for a drugtest will be given.
upon completion and acceptable results of both the urine and background screenings 75% of remaining applicants are usually extended an offer

Interviewed Sep 2010 in Knoxville, TN (took 1 week)
I came in to apply because a family member had previously worked there. The assumption was that I had the job, I just needed to actually apply before they could offer it to me. I was interviewed, given the address where I needed to take the drug test, and informed that they might consider me for assistant manager. It took a week for the drug test to come back.

Interviewed Apr 2010 (took a day)
I applied in person and asked approximately how long it might be before I was contacted. I was told that if the manager was interested in my application, I would be called and asked to come back to take a 'test' on the computer. I was called about 3-4 weeks later and went to the store for the computer 'test' that basically consisted of situational questions. There were approximately 30-50 questions. When I was finished, the manager said that it would be about a week or two before they would get the "results" back and I would be contacted. (No one did.)
I also applied at another location. Since it had been less than a month since I had taken the computer test (at the first store), I would not have to take it again. I was called and scheduled for an interview roughly a week later. I arrived at the store and interviewer was busy assisting customers, so I waited approximately 5 minutes. I was escorted to the back room of the store and sat at a "break table" and we proceeded to go over my application information. I was asked very general questions. For example, I was asked about what former employers might say about me if they were contacted, as well as any co-workers and references. Most of the interview consisted of her describing, in moderate detail, what a typical day would usually consist of, how the scheduling system worked, what would be expected of a prospective employee, (to some degree) how the management system worked (as far as managers, district managers, etc). This process was very interactive as far as being able to ask questions during the description process for even greater informational detail.
I thought that my interview had gone well, considering it went way over the given approximate timetable of 20-30 minutes. (Interview lasted just over an hour). I was told that I would be contacted in 3-4 weeks on account that they had just initiated the application-accepting process and would be conducting more interviews. They said that I would be contacted with the results of my interview "one way or another" (whether I would be offered the job/requested for another interview or declined the job). I waited several weeks and heard nothing, so I went back to the store, spoke to a different "manager" and was informed that they had already hired some new people. I informed her that I was never contacted and they "appologized" and said that they would keep my application and keep me in mind if one of the new hires did not work out, etc.
