Interviewed Feb 2011 in Toledo, OH (took a day)
I was contacted by D.G. Recruiting and was interviewed for 10 minutes with simple, easy questions. I knew I aced it because he then wanted me to take an online assessment test. I have literally taken 30 or 40 of these for such companies as Petsmart, Best Buy, Loves, Starbucks etc. and this friggin test was a manic nightmare. The entire test was approx. 125 questions. The first 40 or so were EZPZ if you had any management skills at all. Then it happened, all of a sudden it switched to math and the headache instantly ensued. Don't bother having a calculator handy, it does absolutely no good. 2,5,10,19,28, what number comes next.? But don't take too long to answer because that counts against you as well.
OMG, I seriously doubt if I passed it. I don't know what percent you have to have but I just started guessing after awhile. Then it switched to management behavorial questions which were fairly simple.

Interviewed Jan 2008 in Tampa, FL (took 5 days)
Very unprofessional. Regional mgr based hiring decision based on liking the candidate, not past experience. Very little asked about professional experience. Wanted to know more about where I liked to shop, where I live, what I do at night. Very strange...

Interviewed Apr 2009 in Goodlettsville, TN (took a day)
My interview with the HR team was very professional and consistent with my expectations. The Divisional VP of Operations for the KY market was the distinct disappointment. He was arrogant and frankly unprofessional. He openly mocked my credentials and all but called me a liar. He insinuated that despite more than 3 decades as a successful retail manager I "might" not be qualified to work for DG. He forgets that the interview process is just as much about ME sizing them up as them sizing me up! No wonder the comments on this site reference the fact that the same mindset prevails even with store associates! A REAL SHAME!!!!
