Interviewed Apr 2012 (took 2 days)
It was very easy. I just filled an application online, went into the store and gave it to the manager. She told me to call back in a week and I did, and I was lucky enough to get the job because two other cashiers quit and I had very good availability.

Interviewed Feb 2010 (took 2 days)
Initial communication:
-Walked into a very busy setting where I had to initiate the conversation in order to get an application
-I filled out the application in the store
-Manager was notified that a potential employee was filling an app
-Manager was unavailable at the moment to come out
-I turned in my application to a lady saying, "thank you for applying, I will give this to my manager & good luck"
Planning of interview:
-I received a call asking me if I had time for a phone interview
-Phone interview conducted, then asked to come in for a 1-1 interview
-1-1 interview conducted, basic questions, a lot of questions focused on ability to get along w/ coworkers
-Ended with signing of papers.
Number and Type of interviews:
-2
-Phone & 1-1 interview
Advice for potential candidates:
Be yourself, relax, and just make sure you like dealing with having a lot of responsibility because most
times than not, you will be the only cashier. (& that's how you want it, cause it shows you are ready
to advance) You can be considered for advancement, even if you have no previous experience. BE ON TIME for work, for interview, even to responding to a missed phone call.
My perceptions of people, office, & work culture:
I worked at two different locations and had two different experiences, at one I would say I felt welcomed & a valuable part of the team. & the other I felt unappreciated, walked over, & mistreated due to lack of professionalism from Management.

Negotiation Details
Always put negotiable on wage. You don't want to lock yourself into a certain pay range, & if not an option on the application (if applying on line) Be sure to explain that you would like to know about pay incentives, bonuses, increases, & opportunity to grow with the company,,((even if you dont want to grow)).. you might just like it later on.. MAKE FRIENDS, NETWORK!

The interview consisted of a Phone Interview and a 1:1 Interview.

Interviewed Sep 2010 (took a day)
My interview was under 30 minutes. I got hired on the spot.
I was asked basic questions about my past experiences in retail, and how I thought items should be organized on shelf: Labels facing towards customers or not? See...very basic common sense.
And the usual, tell me about yourself...
It was not hard at all; you can ace this interview with a little effort.

Interviewed Jul 2011 (took a day)
I applied to a Dollar Tree store, and it took them more than a year to get back to me about it. I got a phone call one day, asking me if I was still looking for a job. I went in for the interview, and got the position right on the spot. I was not asked any difficult questions. The only questions asked were about my availability and my ability to stock merchandise. Neither one of these things were a problem.

You are not able to negotiate anything. Store Associates make minimum wage(at least at the store I work at), and that's it.

Interviewed May 2011 (took 2 weeks)
A new store was building in the county and it started out as a one on one interview. Afterwards we had to read information online about the company, met with the hiring manager to register a username and a password, shifts to pass the temporary position, finally passed.
