Dominick's was hiring a full staff for a new store opening, so I was called in for an interview at an existing location in Chicago. I checked in at customer service, as requested, then took a seat in the cafe to wait. Someone came over shortly, directed me to a different seating area nearby, and a one-on-one interview followed. The woman who interviewed me announced herself as a Dominick's employment specialist. She went through a bunch of questions that were all listed on a small packet she had with her. I was asked about relevant experience (I had none), why I wanted the cake decorator position, whether I was open for other positions, and other similar questions. She told me what the pay rate would be (no room for negotiation).

When she had finished asking her questions for me, she asked if I had any for her. I asked about opportunities for advancement to make myself sound really interested in the position, and sure enough she said that was a great question. I also asked a question about the nature of the job. After that was all done, she said I had interviewed very well and implied I could expect a call within the next few days. I heard back a day or two later and was offered the job.
