It was all very simple started with the application then the Personality test. After that it went on to the phone interview. If you made it through that then it was a Panel Interview.

Lilly uses targeted selection questions... "Tell me about a time when..." and the "when" is something like: "when you made a mistake" or "you couldn't deliver on time" or "you succeeded - - what was it?" The text-book answer will be very brief (5 min) explain the situation, the action taken, and the results. The type of question asked is drawn from a script which probes basic personality traits - - honesty, teamwork, responsibility.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Indianapolis, IN (took a day)
A Lilly representative came to our campus for recruiting. I went to her presentation and expressed my strong interest in the Lilly position. She said it was impressive for someone to come to a 8am meeting on a Friday morning. I think she was impressed with my passion. So she took my resume to the hiring manager. I got a call a few weeks later from him for a phone interview. Then he told me he would like to invite me for an on-site interview, which consisted of group interviews and a presentation. About two months later I got the offer.
All the Lilly people I met during the interview were very polite and professional except one woman who complained non-stop about the company. Everyone read the questions from the script, such as how to deal with conflict and how to deal with a disagreement with your boss. They also asked questions on your resume.

Interviewed Nov 2010 in Indianapolis, IN (took a day)
I initially had an interview at one of the college recruitment visits and was then offered a site interview, 1 on 1, but with about 6 different people. The Interview went well and was very well organized. Each person seemed to focus on something different, mainly behavioral questions, but with a few technical questions. Even though the job was outside my area of expertise, the technical questions were not too difficult - just difficult enough to demonstrate that I could think on my feet.

The second interview was a 2:1 panel interview. There were few personal questions, just a heavy focus on the drugs to be sold.

Interviewed Jun 2008 in Indianapolis, IN (took 2+ weeks)
The hiring process was very straightforward. The questions were very clear and easy to answer with preparation. The culture and people at Eli Lilly are enjoyable, yet can be a bit laid back. I questioned how driven they are. Nevertheless, the work culture was great and fun. My advice to anyone who interview with Eli Lilly is to focus on fit and competency.

Interviewed Jun 2010 in Indianapolis, IN (took 4 weeks)
A phone interview was scheduled by HR with the hiring manager.
quickly was told I would be coming in. HR within a day or two contacted me for dates and it was scheduled.
information was provided and all travel arrangements were made
best orchestrated interview every
car meet me at airport, took me to hotel where information was left for me and the hotel welcomed me as a preferred guest.
dinner that night with hiring manager
car service picked me up in morining and took me to airport when done
interviews went from 8:30 to 4:00 with a working lunch. Meet 9 people, all were on time, I stayed in the same room. Had lunch with one of the interviews.
all interviews were one:on:ones.
there was a bathroom and refreshments in the conference room that interviews were held.
followup: about a week after the interview, I was politely and professional informed that they would not be pursuing my recruitment further. But did it very professionally.

Interviewed Jun 2008 in Indianapolis, IN (took a day)
Applied online and received a casual phone interview out of the blue.
On-site interview followed the standard format of an hour-long presentation and 1 on 1 interviews with scientists and HR.
Lilly does do behavioral interviewing so be prepared with your STAR answers to questions like, "Tell me about how you've resolved a conflict with a collaborator."
