Interviewed Jan 2010 in Paso Robles, CA (took 5 days)
applied to the company a couple of times, first time got a call from director, wasn't aware it was a "phone interview" he set up a time for a 1 to 1, then got a call that morning to cancel. found out later they hired from within. employees running the show. they wanted one of their own to take over instead of an outsider that would actually do their job and hold them accountable.
High turnover, he's gone, another moves in
get a call, go in to interview, no negotiations, want the job, this is what you get. want the job, cancel all plans and start immediately. always holding everything over your head. need a certain day off, if you want the job, no
Negotiation Details
there was none

I applied In-Person and the interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview.

Interviewed Jan 2012 (took a day)
Brief half hour long interview with basic questions- seemed rushed and informal. more like a discussion than an interview- friendly and caring but rushed. Basic interview questions about previous jobs and employers and experiences. didnt really get a chance to elaborate on experiences that would make me qualified for the position though.

Interviewed May 2010 (took a day)
After receiving a call from an HR rep, you either are declined or asked for an interview. After checking in with the front desk, the department manager comes to meet you and give you a tour back to their office. During a short 1-on-1they give you a brief overview of the position, company background and culture, and ask about your experience. Afterwards, they escort you to a conference room where you meet with ~4 of their department team members. They ask a couple "interview" questions before some personal questions to get a feel for you. Afterwards, manager returns and takes yo to their office. They ask if you have any more questions, if you were hired when you could start, etc. They conclude by thanking you and escorting you to the entrance and thanking you for coming by.

Negotiation Details
There was no opportunity for negotiation. When you are asked if you have any questions, that is your only opportunity to discuss compensation. Since Emeritus does not post position pay, having a general idea of the normal pay for similar jobs is very beneficial.
Other Details
The interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview and a Group/Panel Interview.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Sarasota, FL (took a day)
I went in to fill out an application and they had me sit down and fill it out on site. Then a couple of weeks later I was called in for an interview. I went and we discussed the job and I wasn't sure if I was hired or not on the spot, although everyone there seemed to really like me. It took another week or so of me calling them for the boss to tell me not to worry, that I got the job, that it's just taking a while since they didn't have an HR at the time. Then they did a background check based on my application and paid for me to get my fingerprints and physical exam done. Then I was hired and told on the spot that they were hiring me full time, which was good since I was initially told part time. Then I took part in group orientation and paid training. The on-floor training consisted of shadowing another aide for 3 days.

Interviewed Nov 2009 (took 1 week)
Interview process entailed a group/panel interview with all of the other candidates. We were asked hypothetical questions that are given to the directors from the company website. I came back for second interview and knew I had the job. Then had to go through background check ( I had to go to police dept. to obtain) and physical. As a Director, the process is long but the intent is to screen out those with poor histories.
My interview still felt haphazard. It had its process but was still informal. Much easier than landing a real corporated position. Very surprising as well as concerning. Too easy to obtain this position. When salary offered--it all made sense.

Negotiation Details
Negotiated to their cap. It was clear that they are low ballers and the Director quickly lamented it was really out of her hands. This organization works very hard to pay as little as possible for as much as they can get from you. This organization will not budge-especially for staff positions. They do not value that real workers.

I applied In-Person and the interview consisted of a Group/Panel Interview, a Drug Test and a Background Check.

Interviewed Sep 2009 in Newberg, OR (took 1 week)
Applied in person for Chehalem Springs' ALF for the position of a caregiver, and was easily called within that same week for a one on one interview with the company's RCC (Resident Care Coordinator). The interview was held individually--with no time wasted on waiting on other interviewees--and took place in the facility's Private Dining area. Interview questions consisted mainly of past experience with assisting the elderly and experience in first aid. I was also informed that the job was in fact a 24/7 duty, and that I must have a flexible schedule and be willing to learn a variety of skills within a limited amount of time to catch up with the other workers and residents of the Assisted Living Facility. Although I did not have prior background work history to offer--other than my experience of taking care of my grandmothers--the administration did give me the chance to work there and gain so much knowledge of many things, including skills with handling medication to giving insulin shots! Employees are very fast-paced workers, and know their ways and daily routines very well, so be prepared for non-stop walking, serving, and giving outstanding customer service. Also, they had given me a part-time position when I first started working there, but within the next week, I was up to working full-time, 40 plus hours a week which helped me out financially. Overall, it was a great opportunity to have had the chance to work here!

Please make sure that if you have any experience in the medical field, but are starting off in the position of a caregiver, be sure to arrange some kind of future pay raise if you are ever offered the position of a medical aide. Medical Aides during the morning and evening shift have tasks up to their necks, so a pay raise is more proper for such advancement.
