Interviewed Jun 2011 in Washington, DC (took 5 days)
I applied online after finding the listing on my school's website. I was contacted 2 weeks later via email. The interview was with 4 economists and staff members of NCEE. They asked about my skills and work experience. Few behavioral questions. Be sure to know your skillset and sell it.

Interviewed Nov 2011 (took 1+ week)
The hiring and interview process was all very positive. The hiring and interview process at the Environmental Protection Agency was similar to other agencies, in that I interviewed in front of a panel of professionals from the organization within the Environmental Protection Agency which I would be working for. Each of the individuals took turns, with each one asking a question or two. They were very polite, informative, and stayed engaged throughout the interview.

Interviewed Dec 2010 in Seattle, WA (took 4+ weeks)
Hiring manager called inquiring about skill and proceeded to conduct a phone interview. I was invited to come into the office and participate in an in person panel review. There were 4 people on my panel all very warm but professional. I was asked a series of 6 questions in which I weaved my experience into the answer. I left the office with the impression that they liked me. 2 weeks later I was offered a position.

Interviewed Aug 2011 (took a day)
Originally heard of the opportunity through a listserv for my major, sent materials to the company and then applied through USA jobs. Overall pretty straight forward, positive interview. Asked about relevant experience, ect. I had looked up information on their publications ahead of time which was helpful. Definitely a good office to be in.

Interviewed Jun 2011 (took a day)
I was contacted for an interview after passing the evaluation process through USA Jobs. I was highly qualified for the job position, but thought it strange they were classifying the position as a Environmental Protection Specialist, which requires no degree. The interview itself consisted of two individuals in person and about four people on the phone. They each had a list of questions....it was weird taking the questions from the phone interviewers. They mostly asked me general questions which could be answered in "yes" or "no" , but I thoroughly elaborated on my responses. The only technical question came from one of the phone interviewers, "How would I go about evaluating a permit application?" I have over 20 years of permitting experience so I know I nailed that respons. There was not one question that I stumbled on and I have not received a rejection letter after 2 months (which is also weird). The only thing that I can guess is that they have some non-degreed candidate earmarked for the position. I am a current federal employee and if I scored higher than their intended candidate they may be waiting for the list to expire because I don't think they can hire below me.

Interviewed Mar 2010 (took a day)
The interviewer was the potential advisor for the internship. He asked some questions regarding my goals and how the internship fit into my future plans. He also asked about my computer skills. Overall, the questions lasted perhaps 10-15 minutes, and another 15 minutes consisted of me asking questions about the program. He told me he would be in touch, and I received another call a few days later telling me I was accepted to the program. During the second call, I had time to ask more questions such as relocating for the summer, etc. etc.

Interviewed Mar 2011 in Washington, DC (took 3+ weeks)
Called in for a first interview with 2 people on a week's notice. Very comfortable for an interview, even pleasant. Started with questions on my professional history, then moved to my personal/social skills and philosophy of work. Technical questions followed, but in a conversational, non-intimidating way, focusing on what I would consider important issues worth investigating, and how I would approach them. We continued with my questions, to which answers were extensively given. Very stimulating conversation. About 45 min.
Called back for a second interview a couple of weeks later. I gave a 30-min presentation on a technical issue of my choice, met other potential colleagues and executives, and concluded with a brief overview of salary ranges and benefits. Everyone was really nice and even offered helpful advice about the area for relocation. Generally a strong impression that talent is highly valued and people are treated as professionals but with a life outside of work; this was important to me. The fact that personnel is stretched thin and must be able to serve in several capacities came up repeatedly upon probing, though. Mildly informal atmosphere, in terms of dress code and manners.
An informal offer arrived in about 10 days, and a formal one a few days later.

Negotiation Details
Negotiation took place with a HR specialist, though negotiation margins were very limited. Salary came first, and I was presented with very specific criteria that would need to be met to start at a higher step than 1. There was no room to consider cost of living (beyond the built-in adjustment) or the value of the non-salary benefits. Still, the specialist was very encouraging in describing promotion potential and hinted at the difficulties of being selected in a very competitive process, with veteran and transferred employees preferences to boot. Much of the conversation than moved to a detailed overview of federal employee benefits, which are standard and non-negotiable.

Interviewed Jan 2010 in Washington, DC (took a day)
I applied for the interview through an online resource at my school called the Selective Liberal Arts Consortium (SLAC) in November of my junior year. I had the interview in January in Washington. I didn't hear from them until mid April. I first received an email saying I was a semi-finalist for a position. Then I got another email a few days later saying I should expect phone calls from at least one manager about the possibility of working in their office. I got a call about a week later and spoke to a manager for about 20 minutes or so and he said he couldn't officially say that I had the job because I had to submit a bunch of paperwork. I submitted everything a few days later and got a letter about a week after with the official job offer.
