Interviewed Feb 2010 in Madison, WI (took a day)
I took the skills test. It was a 3 part exam with a reading, math, and skills part. It was an extremely analytical exam. The reading had a lot of analogy questions while the math part had a lot of questions that involved critical thinking skills. The last part involves learning a new computer programming software just to see how well you can follow directions.

If somebody asks this question in an interview . . . politely end the interview and walk out. If they'll ask this kind of question, they'll ask dumber ones later on. Then what will you do?
Inappropriate?
Oh yea, and then skip over those people that keep getting up and leaving.

Before answering the question think about what is the goal of it.
It is to test your logic.
This question tries to trick you and test if you are prone to give impulsive wrong (not to say stupid) answers.
Naturally the temptation is strong to say 80 cents since there is a fix increament or 20 cents from the apple to the grapefruit. The logic here is: there is no dependency.
So my answer will be for the price of the pear : to be determined or simply I can't know .

No, this is simply a matter of how familiar the candidate is with the prices of produce.
Pears are usually more expensive than apples but grow in a similar climate. Citrus fruits grow in a different climate and are generally more expensive. I would guess that pears cost about as much as oranges, but it depends on the season (and region, and variety, etc.). It would be difficult to answer this question without some familiarity of produce and relative prices in different seasons.
