Interviewed Nov 2011 in New York, NY (took a day)
Interview went well, the firm has been very engaged and communicative through out the process.

There is supposedly offer on the table, appears to be a tussle with regards to disclosure of information. Why does EY need a candidate's W-2 information to make a competitive offer ? Is it because they are unable to value talent ( concerning as this is an advisory firm charging for valuations) or because they like to make low ball offers to candidates?
I am curious if others have been required to provide the same ?

The interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview and a Background Check.

Interviewed Oct 2011 (took 2 months)
I had applied online and was contacted a couple weeks later by an internal recruiter wanting to schedule an initial phone screen. Throughout the entire process you will receive a canned email from a scheduling coordinator providing instructions for next steps. First phone interview with HR went well and I was moved to the next step which is a second phone interview with a Sr. Manager. This conversation also went well and one more week passed before I received another canned email inviting me for a third phone interview which would be with a Director/Partner level leader within the Practice area I was interviewing. That phone conversation was around 45 minutes and I also thought things went well so I was surprised a few days later to receive an email from HR saying something similar to “thanks, but no thanks”. The whole process took around 2 months (start to finish).
I will say that after conducting some of my own research it seemed as if they were not concrete on which direction to take with this area that I was interviewing for and wish they would have made the decision prior to posting the advertised position however, if you look at most of their postings for employment then you will understand how they are very vague in nature - almost to create a constant “pool” of candidates that can be selected should a large contracted award come through the pipeline.
Upon reflection, I am not that disappointed anymore after learning two of the people I interviewed with (Sr. Manager and Partner) had only been with EY for a matter of months. Possible red flag? Also, I have been in the consulting world for over 5 years now and am pretty much fizzled out on the poor work/life balance and having to deal with airports and airlines every week. Travel is very stressful and poor in quality compared to even a few years ago or the marketing hype you see advertised on television. It will age you like a flight attendant.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Dallas, TX (took a day)
Interview process is streamlined and straight-forward. My experience was enjoyable. I interviewed with 5 partners, and an executive director. The interviewers were really easy going and enjoyable to talk to. I recieved an offer the following Tuesday.

It was easy - I had my parameters ready to go and was very forth right. The compensation package was spot on. They took my aspirations into considerable and found the approrpiate balance. It was a win-win situation.

Interviewed Dec 2009 (took 2 weeks)
Came in through the employee referral program. Had double 1:1 interview on a single day. Usually more candidates are interviewed on a single day, but for experienced hires there is no common program. Outcome is discussed internally the same day, and had the recruiter getting back in touch early the next day.
Did some telephone follow ups with partner/principal SME's to make sure my skillset was indeed what I said it was. Met with the group leading partner the next week and got basic agreement.
Did a bit of back and forth with the recruiter on salary terms, and entry level in the organization 9every rank has year bands - try to get as high up as you can)
Very important not to give the interviewers any inflated stories. They are seasoned veteran consultants at your level, or one level above. They know what the job is, and what you need to bring. Also, because of the growth they have people with a background in nearly every competitor - so give your history a good grounding in reality too. Admitting not having knowledge/experience/capacities (yet) is accepted, inflated stories or "winging it" is not.
Culture is Big four. Differentiators towards the other three is the people oriented culture. Lots of attention for diversity, inclusiveness, and work life balance.
People from the industry are typically placed one rank below what would be their natural rank, to give both parties some time to adapt and evaluate. Industry people have some lower demands placed on them, giving them time to learn consulting. E&Y gets the time to see if the recruit fits in.

Signing bonuses are coming back. Traditionally PwC pays more, and E&Y has a bigger signing bonus.
Apart from the salary, try to get in the highest year band within your rank. Typically there 3 (staff, senior) or 4 (Mgr and above) bands. If all goes well you progress a band a year, and at the end of the band, you get promotion. Do real well and move faster. Do slightly below average and get stuck longer (everything significantly below average will be "released" if improvement plan does not work)

Interviewed Jan 2010 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took 2 months)
Interview process involved three 1:1 interviews that felt more like fireside chats than formal interviews. They were obviously trying to workout my character and personailty than critically analyse skills and competencies.
The process took a long time, and didn't seem to be managed, but felt honest and friendly.
Everybody within EY seems to have been interviewed differently.

Interviewed Oct 2009 in San Francisco, CA (took a day)
Very well planned, interviewers know what side are going tackle each. 3 interviews in a row withough a break was tough. Interview was productiive. Very behavioral, could have entered into more technical details, which makes me wonder how interested they are in your past experience or specific knowledge of what your resume says. Interviewers are very very responsive and interested in sharing what EY stands for.
