Interviewed Dec 2011 in New York, NY (took 7+ weeks)
Was contacted by a recruiter. After basic skills screening by recruiter, I had a technical interview by a director. As next steps, E&Y wanted me to come meet the team in person. Kept asking me to come to NY at a 2 day notice. Planned for a trip, did not know interview schedule until Wednesday eve. It seemed very haphazard.
I had 5 onsite interviews scheduled. The team had obviously not looked at the resume and had basic questions like have I published anything, which was clearly called out in the resume with names of publications, dates and titles. This was rather annoying.
Started by talking to one of the partners, who showed up 20 minutes late. I knew 10 minutes into conversation that the team simply would not be the right fit. The questions for me were very specific, technical screening type which was already done. He however did not want to elaborate on their plans and approach to support the aggressive growth targets and got visibly upset. Not sure if the expectation was that I would toss out some fluff questions and base a career decision out of that.
HR interview was not really an interview but compensation history, work authorization and salary requirements. Of the other 3 interviews, for 2 the questions were really the same as the first interview. One interview was with the director whom I had an earlier phone interview with.
The last interviewer did not show up, because of some client commitment. If I can take a break from my client commitments and take a day to come meet you, surely you can take 30 minutes out to do the same.
I have worked for one of E&Y's direct competitors and have had interviews in past with the big 4 and the overall experience with E&Y was not good. My immediate followup to the recruiter was that I was not interested in continuing discussions with this team.
At each step, they seemed unorganized, I was not impressed with the team which was too myopic in its view, and simply speaking the overall experience was severely lacking. E&Y is a good company, maybe it was this particular team, but this was the most underwhelming interview experience ever
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
I declined to continue discussions with this team. Their focus is way too narrow and the people involved just did not seem to be people I would want to work for or work with.
Other Details
I got the interview through a Recruiter and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview and a 1:1 Interview.

Interviewed Feb 2011 (took 9 months)
Recommended by partner and others within E&Y. Went through many steps filling out background checks, financial disclosures, etc. including interview with recruiter and security company. I had face to face interviews with 5 high level partners in two difference cities plus an international interview conference call. The interviews were positive and I never received negative comments to lead me to believe that there would not be an offer in the end of the interview process. I have not been offered position nor have I been told "no". What I have been told is that they do not know which organization I should be assigned to as employee. It appears to me that the position I was interviewing for has turned into a "political" positioning power play internally over who gets the revenue within the company. My perception of the people, offices and culture are positive but the interview process needs major process improvement work. Plus, my perception is that E&Y may not be flexible enough or agile enough to meet today's fast-paced consulting environment.
