Interviewed Nov 2010 in Cincinnati, OH (took a day)
I was contacted by a recruiter I know well about an open position. The company was interested in my background. We scheduled a time to meet at the company location for a formal interview. I met with the position's operational area leader as well as like manager positions. Although there were questions regarding my background, career evolution, and interests - most of the interview was designed to (1) see if the details and nuances of the open position seemed like a good fit with my interests and situation, and (2) provide them an opportunity to size whether I would be a good team match. I left feeling that I had fielded the interview very well, and attributed how "at ease" I felt to the fact I didn't really feel any pressure to secure the job - I am very happy with my current situation but like to keep an open mind to opportunities and keep my interview skills sharp. The interview ended with talking to an HR individual about compensation and salary range. I asked for what I considered a local market leading salary for like positions, simply because I would need significant monetary incentive to leave my current situation (wich - I mentioned before - is very good). However, I was very dissapointed with the follow-up process. Not sure if I offended someone with my salary range, but I was extremely transparent as to why I asked for such a range; perhaps the "needing appropriate compensation incentive to leave a good job for what appeared another good job" argument didn't resonate well. No harm, though - I received what I wanted out of the interview.
