I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Essai.

    Interview

It was a laid back interview. They were all friendly. Started with a phone interview, then in person with about 4 people. I heard there were several people who applied. Got a tour of the place. Asked about my school history and work history. How I got along with people and my future goals as well.

    Application

I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Essai (Fremont, CA) in July 2013.

    Interview

Was contacted by the HR to set up a Skype interview that lasted for 1 hour. No real technical questions were asked, just more about what I did and my background. The interviewer seemed timed bound but did his best to answer all queries. He spoke a lot about his detailed scoring system which he developed to select candidates in his many years as hiring manager. I thought it went great but never heard back from them. They just stopped replying to emails and answering calls. Very unprofessional. The interview process itself was okay but overall an unpleasant experience.

    Interview Questions

    • Why should I select you over other candidates? When I went on to describe why, he said I sounded like a salesman (Well, I thought that was the point, right?!)   Answer Question

Please do not be fool by the HR manager, ask for what you should get and do fall into "we will adjust it later" trap.

    Technical Writer Interview

The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Essai (Fremont, CA) in May 2012.

    Interview

This company needs not just polish up, but seriously work on the basics on its interviewing skills. I was initially contacted by the HR administrator (who is a sweet gal), and after repeated attempts to schedule an interview, I was successful in getting one in May. I interviewed two individuals (at this point I can't remember positions, and will refrain from naming names). I met with a pleasant lady first, and the interview seemed to be going well, until the the second interviewer blustered in (almost rudely), without shaking my hand or introducing himself. He reviewed my resume (as if he had never seen it before) and said "sorry...but I don't see where you have the technical writing experience we need here." Really? So...did you actually read my resume before I made a very long trip from another region in California? Why did you waste my time?? Anyway, after an exhausting explanation, I told him him how much I loved the tech writing profession, to which he once again (very unprofessionally) retorted "Why should I pay you $XXXX forsomething you love doing?" Huh? Wow, my friend...you certainly need some help in the diplomacy department. I am actually happy to say I never received an offer: indeed, I contacted them the following week and explained to them I felt that their organization, and their professional principles, were atrocious. Essai interviewers: please work on refining your rustic, almost neanderthal, interviewing skills.

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Essai (Fremont, CA) in December 2011.

    Interview

The interview process was chaotic. Start of with an on-line video conferencing for screening. The on-line interview with the hiring manager was never on the topic of skills, qualifications, and work background. During the video conferencing I reserve the topics and try to discuss of the technical aspect of the company products, understanding of design and manufacturing standards, and such but the hiring manager seems to have minimal knowledge of the engineering standard himself. The second interview was at the facility. It was with number of engineers and HR which were also relatively straight forward. Engineering interviews were also vague and the interviewing engineers did not seem to be competent about his and her answers of some of the reverse questions I asked. In addition till the day I left the company the promise of high compensation, after 4+ years, did not even exists after many positive yearly review as HR has promised.

    Easy Interview

    Application

The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Essai in April 2011.

    Interview

Submitted resume and within a week received an offer to have an in-person interview. First interview, the person I was supposed to meet arrived 20 minutes late. The person did not even apologize for being late or explain the reason for the lateness. The second interview was scheduled for the next day. On the 2nd day, I waited for 30-45 minutes and no one showed up to explain the reason for the long wait. After around 1 hour 15 minutes, someone popped in and said the person that was supposed to interview me had to leave for the day so the interview was postponed and rescheduled for the next day. Next day, waited for 30 minutes after the scheduled time for the interview to start.

    Reasons for Declining

Place seems a bit disorganized and does not care to make sure that its interview candidates leave the company premises with a positive experience/image of the company. I want to work for a company that people can have mostly positive things to say even if they are only visitors.
