The Client:
1.) Checks to see if the hostname in question matches its own hostname.
2.) Checks entries in the local DNS Resolver cache (hostfile is loaded in the resolver cache).
3.) Sends a query request to the primary DNS server (if no response, secondary is contacted).
The DNS Server:
4.) Determines if the IP-to-hostname mapping is stored locally or on another DNS server (top-level authoritative).
5.) Forwards a query response back to the client whether or not the mapping is found.

Make sure the hostfile on the client machine is up-to-date if stored locally. If not, run the command IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS to flush any old DNS records out of the local resolver.
