Interviewed at ExxonMobil

Interview Details – Did not have hard interviews, until it was the last interview. Already had experience in the position they were looking for. They want leaders and people who will help the company grow in the direction of leadership (i.e. against all competitors).
Had a friendly recruiter and they took us out to dinner before the main on-campus interview.
No presentations either.

I applied through college or university and the process took a day - interviewed at ExxonMobil in January 2009.

Interview Details – Exxon got my resume through a job fair, the first round of interview was on campus the next day. It was a mix of both technical skills and personality fit. I next got a call after about 2 months with an invitation for an onsite interview. The interview day was presentation followed by 1:1 interviews. Work culture seemed relaxed, everyone I met had a separate room for an office! The technical interview was a breeze but the work did not seem exciting, this probably came across.

I applied through college or university and the process took a day - interviewed at ExxonMobil in November 2011.

Interview Details – One interview that lasted roughly 1 hour. The questions were very subjective which consisted primarily of behavioral and situational questions (i.e., describe a time when you had to deal with a stressful situation, ... a time when you didn't know the answer, ... deal with ambiguity).

Overall, it was an easy interview.

Interview Question – Describe a time when you had to design a system to solve a problem.   Answer Question

I applied through a recruiter and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at ExxonMobil in April 2009.

Interview Details – I was contacted by the recruitment agency and had an initial phone interview. After one week they called me and told me to come for an interview in ExxonMobil. It took around 1.5 hour. I was interviewed by HR representant and Manager of Engineering team. HR asked typical questions: describe a situation when you had a problem with your collegue, and how you handled it, describe a situation when you had to make a difficult decision, describe a situation when you had to cooperate with the others to accomplish a task... Manager asked questions related to the position and checking my knowledge. They also asked me in the end why I chose ExxonMobil.

Interview Question – Describe a situation when you had to make a split second decision   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – You can negotiate within reasonable limits. They asked me what were my financial expectations.
I told them "around XXX but I am flexible because I like the position". And in the end I got even more :)
If they ask you about your financial expectations try to be precise and give a reason (e.g. I live out of the city and would have to commute everyday, etc)

I applied through college or university and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at ExxonMobil in September 2011.

Interview Details – Actually the job description was Ph. D engineering position in our university career center website. The interview lasted 45 minutes and the interviewer was very nice. I was asked the details of my research work listed on my resume. And of course, the behavior question, such as what was the biggest challenge in your life and give an example, describe an example of problem solving ability, and example of working on a project in a team. In the end, I asked the interviewer some questions about the structure in his department. In general that was a pleasant meeting.

Interview Question – When you were working on a project in a team, one of the team members was not willing to work, how did you deal with it?   Answer Question
