Engineering at ExxonMobil International

No Offer – Interviewed in Oct 2010 – Reviewed Nov 10, 2010

Interview Details – This was a on-campus interview. I submitted my resume through the campus career fair. Before the interview started, they had set the questions specially for the one who they were going to interview. They asked questions like the leadership, how do you handle the challenges, what do you do if something urgent falls out of your plan and so on. A few weeks later, I got an email from them and they told me that they did not have a suitable opportunity for me after reviewing my background.

Controller at ExxonMobil International

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Melbourne (Australia) Jan 2010 – Reviewed Aug 18, 2010

Interview Details – Very rigid interview process. There was a list of "suggested" questions which we worked our way through. Two people interviewed in the first interview. Was very routine and not much chance to see the personalities of the interviewers and whether you would be able to work with them. When asked questions they tried to answer as best they could, but came across as quite vague. Job description was not the best. Felt like you were signing up for a brand. After 1st interview, then drug tests and medicals. Once the results came back, then 2nd interview. 2nd interview conducted by 2 people. More of a meet and greet, but also ran through the importance of procedures and controls (dont kid yourself - this is major!). Asked for any conflicts of interest.

Interview Question – Exposure to procedures and controls   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Did not feel like there was any room to negotiate so did not try to do so.

Business Analyst at ExxonMobil International

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Bangkok (Thailand) Dec 2009 – Reviewed Mar 2, 2010

Interview Details – I interviewed on campus in the U.S. at first, as they came to recruit mostly chemical engineering major. As a chemical engineering and economics double major, I told them that I am interested in both an engineering and a business analyst position. It was a basic, 45 minutes behavioral interview. They told me that they will keep my record on file. Around a month later, HR from Thailand, my home country, emailed me stating their interest to pursue my candidacy. I flew back home to Thailand during school break, and interviewed with them. The interview was one hour, 3 people on the panel, and they asked me basic behavioral questions, mostly stuff from my resume but also things like team working and leadership skills.

Interview Question – Can you please tell me a time when you had faced a difficult situation.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – I was not able to negotiate, as they told me that the compensation is already competitively matched with other firms in the city.
