Interview Details –
I had been a long time customer and knew the staff pretty much by name. The assistant manager at the time asked if I was looking for part-time work and I said yes. A few days after submitting my application in person, they called me in for an interview. The interview was fairly short since they had already made up their mind to hire me.
Looking back, having interviewed people myself for that position, I would say a longer interview process and more detailed questions would avoid hiring mistakes.

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Dec 2010 – Reviewed Mar 1, 2011
Interview Details – I was actually interviewed in 2007; they use to make you take a survey (they do not do this anymore). I was recruited by the District Manager. I interviewed with her, took the survey and then a week later had a phone interview with the Regional Manager. Often they will do 1:1, but sometimes they will do a group interview. The questions they ask are basic and I have seen a variety of people get hired. You don’t have to have Store Management experience, just answer the questions right to get the job.
Interview Questions
Negotiation Details – I was able to get a little bit more money because I came from outside the company (however, they never paid me what they said that they would, so watch your pay checks). If you are considering an offer from this company I would really weigh what you like about your life. If you think that you want to work her for the "atmospher" then find another job. THIS one is not great...it was the worst company I have ever worked for. They made me feel like it was going to be a great job, but was not what I had expected in a million years.

Interview Details – Applied online then received a call about 2 weeks later from a manager of a store other than the one I applied for to set up a 1:1 interview with the district manager. The interview lasted about 30 minutes and consisted of the standard questions for the position followed by a conversation focusing on the accountablity that is required of store managers. One of FCS's main focus points is the solicitation of sponsor ships for their mission work. Basicly there is a quota that each employee needs to meet with the store manager accountable for everyone. I found it interesting that the DM told me why the prior manager was released and opened a 3-ringed binder reflecting the performance, or lack there of concerning the other stores in the region. The DM mentioned that the accountability was higher than most retailers. Another messure of accountability is the ratio of customers in the store who actually buy something to those who don't. There is a tracking system at the door that counts customers. After our interview, which took place in a Food Court of the mall the store is located in, I was asked to fill out a traditional application and turn it back in and told that the next step would be to meet with a regional president, which would basically be a formality. I was also told I would hear something with in a week as the DM still had 5 other candidates to meet. The DM was from out of town & I got the impression I was the first interview. The people in the store were nice. I did not receive a call or email, which was really my biggest disappointment given there were only 6 candidates. I went into the process professionally and expected the same. 5 weeks have gone by since my interview and I've noticed that the position is still not filled. There is a sign on the door for manager, which is new and the ad on line has changed stating that applicants without small/specialty retail experence will not be considered. My background is big box...perhaps so is the background of the other 5 applicants and we were asking for too much. Anyway, after meeting with the DM 1:1 a "thanks but no thanks" email or call would have been nice.
