Interviewed Feb 2011 in Akron, OH (took 4 days)
The whole process seemed way too simple and kind of sketchy. I went to the counter and had a "one-on-one" interview that was pretty much like talking with a receptionist at the counter. The lady told me she really liked me and that I had a great chance after literally only 5 minutes of talking.

Reason for Declining
I would have been in charge of an entire store for an offer of about 30,000 dollars, which was not enough

Interviewed Jun 2010 in Springfield, IL (took 2 weeks)
I walked in on Family Video's walk-in interviews and talked to the manager for around 20 min. Then got a call a couple days later to set up a test-taking date for their skills test. The test was a basic logic test (basic math, aphabetizing, spelling) with some hard questions. The next step was a 1:1 interview with a manager. I interviewed, and then got a call with an offer.

Interviewed Jun 2008 in Indianapolis, IN (took a day)
The interview was very neutral. The Manager asked the basic questions like tell me about yourself, and why do you want to work. However he acts like he was not interested with my answers. He have another guy with him that looks like he is there to observe or in training. I think we have interview just so he can show this other guy how he conduct interview. Didn't heard from them after that.

Interviewed May 2010 in Taylor, MI (took 4 days)
First I had the obligatory informal one on one interview with a store manger. She was nice but really didn't have a personality and was a bit insecure, but pleasant nonetheless. Next was an IQ/skills, annoying, but easy if you take your time and read the directions first, I didn't at all, but still passed. Third, was an interview with the district manager-easily the nicest and most normal of the bunch. Most of these questions are open ended and are basically you talking about yourself personally and why you want to work there. Then they did a background/references check. Last was the regional manager interview. I showed up on time as usually, she looked very bored and possibly had a bad day or a lot on her mind. Asked the same questions I've already answered previously with the other interviewers, but always interrupted me a lot when I tried to finish the answer and asked another question. It was almost like she was looking for an answer and if she didn't get, she moved on. You could tell she was a person with not a lot of emotion/feeling, meaning she was the Business major in college, not the Art major/Sociology major. She just didn't exude any personality or individuality as I saw it, but she could of just had a bad day, a break up, a pet death, death in the family ect, so I wont assume that she is normally like that, but it is very possible. In the end, they did not offer me the position due to lack of experience which is odd since I actually have a lot of experience, but the regional manager knew nothing about me as I could tell by her questions directed at me. I'm pretty sure she didn't read my resume or she would never of said that. Regardless, I didn't understand why they kept moving me along if I didn't have experience(if that's what they were looking for). I find it odd that they said I didn't have enough experience when they kept saying that you didn't need experience for them to hire you for a manager position. Oddly enough as I said before, I had over a decade of experience. Pretty sure the regional manager didn't read my resume, or she didn't like my personality and tried to find an excuse to not offer me the job. Great company if you want to rent cheap videos, but the managers and workers never look you in the eye, are generally very insecure and lack personalities, at least the couple of Family Videos I've been to. It's ironic that they ask for a people person type, but the people there look so depressed, or at the opposite end of the spectrum, very airhead like. A few of them are normal though. On every interview I went on(four), something happened on Family Video's part to somehow mess it up. One time THEY didn't write down I had an interview and I had to wait until the person came back. Another time the person interviewing me forgot again, and I had to go to another store to do the interview. All in all, it was kinda felt like they were unprepared.

Interviewed Jun 2010 in Farmington, MO (took a day)
I applied online and then went to an open interview. After waiting 45 minutes, my name was called, I was ushered to the side of the room, I was asked which job I was applying for and when I answered "store manager or assistant manager" I was informed that the jobs had already been filled internally BEFORE the open interviews. I was also informed that only corporate trained peopel coukld be oput in those positons. These positions had been posted on the internet on numerous job boards, so if they were going to fill them internally then why advertise them.

Interviewed May 2010 in Anderson, SC (took 1 week)
Received a call about my online applications and answered a few generic questions; went in later that day to have a one on one with the Store Manager. He asked the usual questions: Why do you want to work here? What can you bring to the company? and Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Afterwards we set up a time to take their general skills/knowledge test.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Louisville, KY (took 2 days)
Interview held in the middle of the video store...made it very difficult to concentrate. Was told I was not bubbly enough and that was what they were looking for since they were selling an experience not a product. Did not appreciate some of the interviewer's comments and the way he approached the fact that he didn't really like my "personality" (i.e. monotonous).

Reason for Declining
Did not believe pay was fair for amount of responsibility. Would be required to start as an hourly ($7.25) for up to 30 days. Would have to train at various stores (over an hour's drive each way) and they would have possibly wanted me to transfer especially for any type of promotion.

Interviewed Feb 2010 in Dixon, IL (took 1 week)
First you get called to schedule an interview with the store manager. After you do well on this interview, the store manager calls to set up a day to take a skills test. Math, reading, and comprehension is on the TIMED exam. A candidate must receive at least a 70% to pass. I passed, then an interview with the District Manager was set up. Asked the same questions as store manager. If DM likes you, you will be hired.

Interviewed Jun 2008 (took 1 week)
The interview process was pretty easy. I came in on a day where they were holding open interviews, and was offered a second round interview with the district manager. No behavioral based questions for the most part, just basic tell me about yourself type questions. I passed the interview with the DM and was then interviewed by the regional manager, which I passed as well. They love enthusiastic people who are excited about the company.

Interviewed Aug 2008 (took 5 days)
Upon consideration for the position (by the current GM of the store you apply to), you interview with the store manager first. Then you have to pass a test - which is basically an intelligence test, and should be fairly easy to pass. Upon passing this test, you meet with the DM and have an interview. After this point, you will meet with the RM.
For potential candidates, I would highly recommend being all smiles and bubbly personality on the days you interview, as it was my experience that FV is looking for this type of personality.
