Interviewed May 2010 (took 3 weeks)
My initial communications with the company were through an off site regional human resources representative. Our initial conversation was pleasant and through a couple of follow-up emails a series of face to face interviews were arranged. I called a few days after the interview arrangement to inquire about airline tickets, hotel, etc. only to find out that an email had been sent out several days prior and "didn't you reply?" I had not replied to this latest email as I had never received it (I finally found out it was sent to the wrong address) but moreover, I can not understand why a call was not made after a day or so to inquire why they had not received a reply (STRIKE 1). I traveled to the manufacturing site for the interview and met with a series of managers for the first three hours however the fourth manager in line never bothered to show up and did not send a replacement so I sat idle for the next hour. The tour of the facility was a complete joke as the person who was supposed to conduct it also never showed up and consequently another individual was grabbed at the last minute and he walked about 6 paces in front of me and only said about 10 words the whole time (STRIKE 2). While waiting for the guy to get me a lab coat etc. for the tour I honed in on some of the conversations taking place in the office area where I was waiting and it seemed as though no one was happy with their job (a note to any hiring managers reading this - you might want to keep your candidates away from disgruntled employees during the interview process). Finally the off site regional human resources representative had mentioned that she would call me the day after the interviews to see how things went and to answer any remaining questions I might have. Well, no follow up call (STRIKE 3) - and at this point I wanted to call and tell them that I was no longer interested in the job but felt that if I did so I might not get reimbursed for my travel expenses (which by the way can happen). This company has "good bones" but remember that a candidate is trying to be the best they can be when interviewing for a position - companies need to also be at their best and this company fell very short of that.
