Received and Declined Offer

Interviewed Jan 2012 in San Diego, CA (took 2 days)
called the place and was told to show up next day to apply in person. Showed up, applied through a fairly straightorward paper application. The office was small, very cramped, comprised of maybe four rooms joined by a short single hallway; however, the office was clean, organized, manned by young, energetic and extroverted staff. After turning in the application, I was immediately ushered in to meet the office manager, a well-spoken and rather charismatic fellow (won't deny that at all). A firm handshake and quick greeting later he sizes me up quickly and lets in that, in fact, I would be doing some sales along with my driving responsibilites and that I should be prepared to work hard. Am I game? Sure, I say. He says, okay, show up tomorrow morning for a ride-along and we'll see how you feel about it. I agree heartily because the quick interview is so friendly and casual and positive. Well...

Reason for Declining
For some reason, maybe because the interview was just too easy and casual, I decide to look up the business on the internet... Ouch... Uh, www.yelp.com should be a required resource if you have any doubts whatsoever, however small, about a job offer. Without going into too much detail, the position was in fact an uphill battle door-to-door sales gig hawking meat of questionable and marginal quality.
From my experience, this isn't the first time an "easy and casual" interview in fact has lead to some ulterior, one-sided and unconscionable arrangement between employee and employer. It's really quite astounding if you think about it: the business owner is deceiving the consumer AND his or her employee!
It's hard not to fall for it, though. You need a level head. These business owners, representatives and interviewers are charming, charismatic, engaging and very persuasive. They know just what to say and how to lead you in. (sigh...) Oh well...
Other Details
I applied In-Person and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview.
