Interviewed Apr 2012 in North Richland Hills, TX (took 2 days)
I met the company representative at a career fair and we exchanged information. I received a call the next day to come in for an interview. Through the interview I learned the position would be no income until the quota of 40P&C and 4Life policies were sold. Afterwards you would receive a $2500 base + commissions, but until that point it would be $0.00.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
The position would place me in a worse financial situation than I am already in.

Interviewed Oct 2011 (took 4+ weeks)
Interview process started with the opportunity overview and assistance from the company. They really make sure you are a good fit for the position by asking very open ended questions. Second interview was with training manager and district manager which was more of the same, lots of open ended questions. Third and final interview is with your spouse, offer is then made. Know why you want to do this and be confident in your answers. Have a good answer to how you expect to handle low income months when owning your own business.

Recruiters identify characteristics that generally make good agents. The interview process is a combination of an interview and a sales pitch. It is well done and not high pressure.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Pittsburgh, PA (took 6 days)
I applied for the job on a Tuesday and was called that night for an interview. The office was very nice and I was offered coffee or water by the receptionist. The interview consisted of a 1:1 with questions relating from employment background, your socianess (you are told you will have to come up with a list of 200 people in the area for your clientele), and customer service questions. The guy I interviewed with was very nice and personal throughout the interview. I was told I would be moved on to be looked at by the managers and would receive a phone call Monday or Tuesday. He then walked me through the office and showed me around then I had to take an IQ/Skills/Behavioral test before leaving. It was pretty simple, vocabulary, math, common sense, and personality questions. I was called on Tuesday and offered a second interview.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
Financial reasons. 12 months training, I would have had to relocate. $450 for a license. Then was told I would have to work part time on top of it to save up $5000 for after training. It wasn't realistic for me to do as a poor, recent college graduate.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Phoenix, AZ (took 3 days)
Farmers has a career path that allows for individuals to advance at a fairly reasonable time. Management tries to make changes but thanks to the lawsuits, the workplace has become more of a babysitting feeling than an adult works here type of place. Compensation is average to below average. The benefits used to be amazing. Health insurance was reasonable, the profit sharing was great and the month of profit sharing was a party. It really made you feel valuable to the company. With the move to Zurich, profit sharing is now one week and the guidelines are so stringent, getting off the phone for call center employes removes most of the activities available to them. Places change so it is something to get used to.

Interviewed Mar 2009 (took 2 days)
They tend to appreciate a conservatively, well dressed person.
If you already have a current insurance license and any kind of insurance sales experience you are hired immediately after you pass the credit, license and criminal background check. You will also have an interview with a District Manager who has you sign the consents for the background checking and lets you know about the training period.
He/She tells you that during training the pay is commission only, that you are required to sell 40 P&C policies and 4 Life in a three month period to qualify for further training and to start your own agency . If you have 39 at the end of three months you roll back and start over.
They tell you that you have full marketing support, which may not be the case because you still have to pay for mailing and distribution costs, eventually, although they don't say that up front. Some managers will foot the cost and you can pay them back later but that really isn't discussed. If you're lucky the sales manager will tell you that Farmers property insurance is very conservative at underwriting so that homes in many rural forested areas will be turned down as prospects. Their best rates are for newer, larger homes within city limits and very small restaurants and that may not fit the geography or demographics of the area where you're selling so you may have to travel to do effective marketing. You will spent about 80% of your time marketing, including door to door, community events, and phone but that isn't necessarily disclosed.

Interviewed May 2011 in Brookfield, WI (took 3 days)
I received a call from a Farmers Insurance recruiter in Brookfield, Wis. He'd found my resumé, which was posted on a job-search website. I gave him some background information on my education and my brief experience in the working world (recent graduate). He invited me to interview at a Farmers AgencyPoint center in Brookfield five days from the initial call. Since this was my first "real" interview since graduating in December, I conducted a lot of research on the mechanics of interviewing. I brought two copies of my resumé, printed on plain computer paper as the printer was having none of the fancy nice paper. The receptionist was very pleasant, offering to take my coat and get me some coffee or water. I met with another recruiter than my initial contact. He was younger and a bit more casual than I was expecting, so I wasn't as nervous or intimidated. The one-on-one interview lasted about a half hour or 45 minutes before he took me on a small tour of the three locations in the building. There was a cubicle-maze call center, where agents spend four months cold-calling. There was also an office dedicated to conference rooms and private offices where insurance consultations could take place. The top floor is mainly the claims department, I think. I saw very few people in the office, as most employees were in a conference in Atlanta, so I don't have a firm feel about the culture there. After the tour, I was put in front of a computer where I took timed and untimed psychological and aptitude tests (e.g., "agree," "neutral," or "disagree"). That took about an hour, so I was at the AgencyPoint center for just under two hours.

Interviewed Nov 2010 in Salt Lake City, UT (took a day)
The lady wanted to get to know me like I was a blood relative. She seemed really lonely and in a way like she wanted to give away her business the most worthy candidate. She was very eccentric and seemed not at all concerned that I needed a job right now.
