Interviewed Feb 2009 in New York, NY (took 7 months)
I initially applied for the job in October 2008, I got a call back for an interview in November. I had an interview in November 2008. I didn't hear back from them again until February 2009. I had a second interview. The second interview was was the department director. It was a pretty easy going interview. They didn't offer me the position until May 2009. It took several months. I think their interview process is too drawn out.

Interviewed Feb 2009 (took 3 weeks)
The hiring process was actually pretty difficult. They expect for you to know a lot about the Federal Reserve system, the economy, monetary policy, etc. They will ask you behavioral questions and maybe give you a semi simple math problem to solve.

Interviewed Apr 2010 in New York, NY (took a day)
HR first sent me an email asking to arrange for an interview for their NYC location. They quickly responded to my emails and also arrange an interview for a position in Hartford, NJ. I got a little lost driving to both locations and so was late both times to the interview... Take the car service they offer! They had me interview on a Friday, morning in NJ afternoon in NYC. At NYC I was supposed to speak with HR first then the hiring manager but thanks to my lateness I met with HR post interview. Both interviews were 1-to1, very informal. More of a get to know you session, not a single interview question asked other than "tell me about yourself?" The NYC hiring manager put it in blunt terms: "I already know you're smart, HR's told me you've got <this GPA> and <this and that> award..." Essentially this guy was looking for an intern he would
'click' best with, not the 'most qualified.' HR puts everyone on an equal playing field that way.

Interviewed Dec 2009 (took 2+ weeks)
After the resume was submitted through the recruiter, I received a Email indicating the Fed is interested in an interivew. I asked the recruiter to coordinate the schedule. I met three people during my first interview: the HR manager, the hiring manager and her boss(VP). The questions asked are standard: tell me about yourself; what are your strengths and weakness. The accounting function is based on New Jersey.

Interviewed Nov 2009 (took 1 week)
Interview was arranged between myself and two bank examination staff. Neither individual was kept the appointment and did not bother to notify me that they had conflicts. However they did call approximately 45 min to 1 hour after the scheduled time, expected me to talk, and then proceeded to rush through the interview. Neither was very engaged as they said they had other appointments to keep.

Interviewed Apr 2009 (took 2 weeks)
Received a call from HR and had a 30 min discussion with her. She was very excited to have me interview, so most of the time was spent chatting with her (not even about the job). Next round was a group/panel interview the following week. They asked me about my interest in the economy, why I wanted to work at the Fed, who my favorite economist was and why, and to discuss my previous experiences. Most of the interview focused on my interests with the Fed and in the economy, and how they aligned with my future goals. Next I had to complete a writing test, produce a writing sample, and then edit several of the Fed's research documents. HR was very personable, but note that others you may interview with (e.g. people in the department) may have a more academic, introverted personality.
