Declined Offer – Interviewed in New York, NY May 2010 – Reviewed Jun 29, 2010
Interview Details –
I was emailed by their recruitment team to come to a group interview on campus. I was attending University at Buffalo at the time. The group interview had 2 presenters and about 10 candidates. After the presentation was over with each candidate would get a 15 minute 1:1 interview with a manager. My interview lasted about 2 minutes and I was told I would move on to the next phases quickly, however we went on to discuss the managers vacation to Puerto Rico and my advice on where to visit for about 15 minutes. I wanted to be in the NYC office so my 2nd interview would be there. My information was sent over from Buffalo to the NYC office and I was contacted 3 weeks later, once I was on the area for my 2nd interview.
When I came in I realized it was another panel interview, however this time with 5 candidates. A manager came into speak to us about the job, his way through the system and how he is now going to be opening his own office in Brooklyn. He was extremely cocky, uneducated, and very annoying. He talked about his money for 25 minutes! An hour and a half later I finally was asked to come into the head directors office for a 1:1.
I was asked a lot of personal questions that lead to his interest in knowing my financial/home status at the time. Questions like (do you have a boyfriend, do you know people in the area, are you financially secure, do your parents support you?). Anyways I was told I would have to study for 4 weeks for the license to be a financial advisor and that it cost $500. I would come in everyday for 4 weeks and study 9-5 and Mondays stay 9am to 9pm. I was told once I started working I would work 60 hour weeks, Saturdays too and I would never see my boyfriend.

Interview Details – First Investors had a booth set up at my college's career fair so I went over to check it out. After talking to the representative there for only a few minutes she scheduled me for an interview. The first interview was with eight other prospective employees and one of the co-managers of the location discussed the basics of the job. At the end of that there was a breif one-on-one interview where I was asked to come back for a second interview the next day. I came back because I was not very clear on what the job was all about. The second day interview process was very similar to the first with a group presentation about the job and then a one on one interview. The whole thing made me leary of the company because it just didn't seem right so I decided against working there. The fact that there is no base salary was the breaking factor for me. Also, the people that I talked with at FI seemed like they were lying when they were talking about how much money someone could make and how quickly people can advance to new jobs, I just didn't trust them.

Interview Details – I met the recruiter at a Job Fair the day before and asked me to come in the next day for an interview. I came the next day and was placed in a room with six people that had all been at the career fair the previous day. We all listened for 2 hours while she explained the company and sugar coated how the job and company worked. She asked each of us what we wanted in a company and then explained how this company had all those things we wanted. From there we went to one on one interviews which lasted only about 10 minutes and then asked to come back the next day if we were still interested in the position. I was not interested and declined to come back because the job was 100% commission and who knows how long it would take to build up a client base so it was not for me.

Interview Details – It was a big group interview to explain the position. I was not interested.
Interview Question – Basic background... where did you go to school, major, past experiences... Answer Question

Interview Details – Not what they make it seem at all, I was expecting at all. They make it seem like a legitimate 1 on 1 interview, but you go in and have a lengthy presentation by one of the managers just trying to sell you the company. This is a group presentation by the way. After that there is a 1 on 1 interview, but I ended up walking out by then. Really a waste of time, would not recommend unless you are very desperate.
Interview Question – Describe an unethical situation you were put in and how you handled it? Answer Question

Interview Details – The interview process was fairly unorganized. First they call you in for a 1:1 interview. When I showed up to the interview they had me with 6 other candidates in the same room. After about an hour of explaining the job process they take you individually and interview for about 10 minutes. Second interview is much worse. They take about 2-3 hours explaining the job description and then they interview. I feel that this company is a scam. They try telling you that they are very selective and competitive, but its actually fairly easy to get a job there. You just need to seem interested.
Interview Question – Tell me of a time that you were involved in an unethical situation? Answer Question
