Accounting Intern at Fluor

Declined Offer – Interviewed in Greenville, SC – Reviewed Mar 7, 2013

Interview Details – Applied through on-campus career website. About 2 weeks later had first interview on-campus with two accounting managers. They were very informal and friendly. They first asked, tell me about yourself but something not on your resume. Everything from then on was conversational. It was easy to relax and allow my personality to shine through, which is what they wanted. At the end of the interview they told me I had great interview skills. About a week or two later, I got a call from the HR department to schedule an interview at their office in Greenville. In-office interview was informal as well. I interviewed with 6 different people including accountants, accounting managers, financial analysts, and I believe the controller. Prepare for "why this company," "why this job," "why your school," "strengths and weakness." Be able to describe your work experiences and relate them to job applying for (even if not directly related). Be able to sell yourself without being overzealous and all the while showing personality.

Interview Question – Nothing was out of the norm. They want to get to know you, so don't be thrown off if they ask you why you chose your school and why you want to move to the job city.   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – I had other obligations for school and VERY unfortunately, I couldn't accept the offer.

Human Resources Specialist at Fluor

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Greenville, SC Jun 2009 – Reviewed Jan 27, 2013

Interview Details – I met a senior HR Manager at a social event soon after I graduated from college. I got his card, wrote him an email and he quickly contacted me. He lined up several interviews with different HR managers on the Fluor campus. After several in-person interviews, I was contacted by HR and offered the job.

Interview Question – Since this was an entry level position, the questions were pretty general. I had zero HR experience at this point, so the interviews mainly focused on my previous sales experience and college education.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Since it was an entry level job and a generous offer, I did not negotiate.

IT Operations Specialist II at Fluor

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Greenville, SC Jul 2011 – Reviewed Sep 15, 2012

Interview Details – Was brought on project by a former boss, no interview needed.

Interview Question – Not applicable   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Horrible... only offered me an additions 3k more from a previous job with Fluor where the base salaries were discounted to win the project award. I typically garner 95-105k in the private sector, and took a 72k base job with Fluor in Afghan with 80% uplift. When I came onto this project, they only offered me 75k with 40% uplift.

Associate Process Engineer at Fluor

No Offer – Interviewed in Houston, TX Mar 2012 – Reviewed May 28, 2012

Interview Details – Applied online through engineering career center website. Received interview request and set up a time online. Met with the recruiter for a 45 min long interview. The recruiter was nice and I was familiar with him, since I had met him at the career fair. He really didn't ask any questions to be completely honest, and I was a little thrown off by that. Instead, we spent the entire time slot discussing the company, the responsibilities of the position, the work culture, etc. I felt that I had shown enthusiasm and passion for both the position and the company. I was told that I would be contacted in about a month or so regarding a decision as to whether or not I would advance to the next round of interviews. It has since been several months and I have never received any word from Fluor regarding a decision, though I had emailed my interviewer several times throughout these months. I would not recommend the company as it is totally unprofessional to not get back to a candidate who you actually interviewed in person. I was thoroughly disappointed.
