Interviewed Nov 2011 (took a day)
We were given the direction 3 days before the scheduled interview to give a presentation to sell ourselves to the position. The direction listed a few specific points to elaborate on and was to be 5-10 min. in length. The panel of interviewers consisted of our regional and two other managers. It seemed informal and they tried to make you feel at ease. They had only a couple of questions at the end of the presentation and it almost made me think they weren't interested. They did explain that this is something new they are trying and they really wanted to get to know us and how we feel about our experiences and our growth process. We'll see in a couple of days how it went. I do like the interview process however, a little more feedback or more questions from them might not have me thinking I wasn't what they are looking for at the end of the interview. We will find out in a couple of days.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Portland, OR (took a day)
Applied online and called the store to follow up. Was offered an interview for about two weeks later. Standard interview, except I feel like the interviewer set me up to fail. She looked at my resume, saw that I had a college degree in an unrelated subject and asked what "What do you REALLY want to do?" Maybe I just don't have a ton of interview experience, but I was caught off guard and my first instinct is honesty, and I admitted that I may have other long-term plans besides working retail at Fred Meyer for the rest of my life. I thought this would be a safe thing to do because I was interviewing for a temporary position. Later, when I called to follow up, she cited this as her reason for not hiring me, because "we're looking for people who want to make a career out of Fred Meyer." It just seemed a little tricky, and I don't think it makes sense to eliminate ambitious people during a hiring process.

Interviewed Mar 2009 in Seattle, WA (took 3 days)
I applied online on a Tuesday night. The application was long with a lot of personality questions. The next morning I was called by the head of human resources to set up an interview. I was interviewed 2 days later by the department manager. He asked me basic, easy interview questions and then offered me the position pending a drug test. I passed and started a couple of days later.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Beaverton, OR (took 2 days)
After applying, I recieved a phone call from the very, very nice HR manager and was asked to come in for an interview. This interview was 1:1 and took place in her office. She asked me maybe two interview questions that she recorded, but the rest seemed to be general questions. After that, she had me read the job desrciption and sign that I read and understood the job requirements.
The second interview was with the department manager. This 1:1 interview took place in another room in the building where I was again asked maybe two questions. She then offered me the chance to ask questions, and gave great answers to all of them. Once offered a job, I was redirected to the HR manager, who gave me a drug test via a cotton swab in the mouth.
After the drug test results and background check went through, I was given dates for orientation.

Negotiation Details
Pay is definitely negotiable. I was asked several times what my expected wage is. I asked what the average pay was and was given good information (anywhere from 9-12/hr on average, doe). I was even given more than I asked for. I think this would apply to any position and any interview.

Interviewed Apr 2009 in University Place, WA (took 1+ week)
I applied online and was called four days later by the Human Resources head to schedule an interview. I was told to walk through the door in the back in Apparel that said "Employees Only" and go into the first door on the right. The woman who interviewed me was very friendly and sweet and asked me various questions about where I lived, why I was going to school and why I wanted to work at Fred Meyer.
A couple days later, I went in to take the drug test. The person who conducted the test was the Apparel Manager, randomly. He had me swab the inside of my cheek and he put it in a plastic container.

Negotiation Details
I was able to negotiate based off of my experience in retail. Because I previously worked at Nordstrom, the manager of CCK gave me a little bit higher than minimum wage.
I advise working at Fred Meyer but not as a cashier in CCK. Anywhere but there is better.

Interviewed Nov 2010 (took a day)
I was called and was told that they had a position open for a seasonal Fruit Basket Hostess (Its where you arrange fruit/candy baskets like the ones you see on TV) and was asked if I would be interested in Interviewing. The interview was probably 20 minutes with the HR lady, she explained the job, asked me to describe myself, and asked me about 5 behavioral questions. I was then interviewed by the Boss Boss, who gave me a drug test and told me that I would be receiving a call about orientation shortly.
