The people who interviewed me were good. The office is very shabby there is not even a freescale board for the building. HR is unprofessional, Very unorganized.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Tianjin (China) (took a day)
freescale contacted me about a position with the print team. i was well paid and was doing well at the company i was with at the time, but i agreed to interview anyway. the head of global print operations was under a lot of pressure due to the lawsuits, etc. yet, he needed headcount, especially they needed help with the actual print operation and the quality problems they were having at the time.
the job was for a permanent position — why else would they go through a grueling 2 days of interviews for a contractor? but when i pressed him on salary and asked him to match and provide much more than what i was making and i anchored at an amount, he buckled and made it contractual instead.
he waffled, so i said “no thanks”.

One of my friend working in the company referred me for the job. The first round was a telephonic interview round which went for about one hour. One week later, a telepresence interview was taken for about 1.5 hours after which I was offered the job.

Interviewed Mar 2008 in Tempe, AZ (took a day)
Just before my Ph.D defense a friend referred me for a job as a device modeling engineer at Freescale's tempe campus. The interview started at 9.30 amwith my hour long presentation. This was followed by one on one interviews with 10 engineers from the group lasting approx 20-30 minutes each. There was the usual 45-50 min lunch break with the manager and the director/VP when I was taken out to local restaurant. The interview process lasted until 6.30 pm which I think was stretched out. I was told I will be the last person in the group to be hired out of N. America... the future expansion plans and subsequent hiring will be all out of Freescale's Shangai facility and I will have to work with them.....blah blah
I never heard from them again .... probably they hired someone who speaks mandarin ...
I work for a US defense contractor now.

Interviewed May 2008 (took a day)
This might be a little bit special case as Freescale was trying to setup a local sw team from the group of motorola who get just layedoff. There was a close relationship between these two companies and you know most of the persons. Therefore the interview is kind of general and many are puzzle or high level questions.

Interviewed Aug 2008 (took a day)
i entered the room and there were 2 interviewers.
they asked me about my studies (it was a student position), which courses i liked\disliked.
they also asked me about my current job. then they discribed a bit the position itself and left me some room for questions and then the technical interview started.
there were supposed to be 2 technical interviews but because i was a student there was only 1.
after passing the interview i was offered a contract by the HR person.

Interviewed Nov 2007 (took 4+ weeks)
Phone interview with HR, hiring manager and then in person interview. HR and hiring manager asked behavioral interview question and in person interview was basically informal discussion. Office in Tempe is rather drab, if you are going to work for FSL, I suggest you seriously consider moving to Austin.

Interviewed Jul 2007 in Austin, TX (took 1 week)
The job was validation engineering which is very low level. The supervisor knew me from a previous company and liked my work. So when they had a req come open, he asked if I was interested. The initial interview took place over lunch with him, the dept mgr, and a team member. It was very friendly and encouraging. Then the formal interview process was set up 3 or 4 days later and it was practically all day with an hour one on one with different team members. Their interview style was mostly like a pop quiz at school...very specific questions about programming language and hardware/processor details as a rule. What I should have done more of is tell stories about I had performed at previous positions. So, one of the team members was not that happy with my performance, but the supervisor and his boss really liked me. It came down to meeting over lunch again with just the dept mgr. I was advised by my friend the supervisor to get very specific about my accomplishments and that convinced the mgr to make an offer.

Negotiation Details
I was not able to negotiate. The salary and benefits offer were better than what I had at the previous job, but a lot less time off. They were inflexible on that.

Interviewed Jun 2007 (took a day)
The interview was consistent.
The location was in a meeting room, on the top floor.
It seemed to be an administrative floor, with no production engineers around.
The interview was clear, with a presentation map being given.
All questions seemed to be from a standard interview list.
Questions were simple and clear and the people there were really wanting to get the answer from the candidate.
Good impression.
