I applied online and the process took a day - interviewed at FutureAdvisor in August 2011.
Interview Details – I answered a CraigsList ad, and they requested a code solution to a specific problem. They looked at my sample code and moved on to a phone interview. They seemed to value general skills & ability to learn over specific skills: I had a very little Rails experience, and the job was a Rails job. The phone interview was conducted by one of the co-founders; I think others were listening in. His interview style was rapid-fire questions. That's just how he is; speaks fast and to the point. So be prepared for a speed interview. The questions covered a variety of technical topics, and many of them related to the code sample; make sure you've got the code on hand for the interview.
Interview Question – Questions related to my sample code -- algorithmic questions, language feature questions, design questions, and quality questions Answer Question
I applied online and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at FutureAdvisor in February 2011.
Interview Details – Very responsive staff and positive experience. The interview questions were somewhat atypical, being more hypothetical, but they were reasonable of what one should expect for the type of role. They were clear on expectations and timelines, and lived up to the expectations they set.
