Interviewed Oct 2011 in Latham, NY (took 2 days)
I had a face-to-face interview with GE Corporate. I met individually with about 8 guys - different managers including the hiring manager. Then I interviewed over the phone with the CIO. At the end, he informed me that the key qualification that they are looking for was someone who could interact with the off-shore team of Oracle DBAs in India. I asked him how large was that group - he said 89 DBAs. There were very few DBAs on-site.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Schenectady, NY (took a day)
I initially applied either through GE's own site or Indeed. Initially contacted by phone. I was bit confused about the position since the title of the position was for one thing but when I arrived for an interview it was for a different product. Although both involved manufacturing engineering it threw me a bit in the interview. The interview involved touring the grounds while being asked questions which involved basic problem solving and questions that someone with the required background would know. Facilities seemed typical for the position and employees were friendly. Offices were a bit dreary, no windows, cubicle farm. The interviewer was very polite and knowledgeable and answered all my questions. Also answered follow up questions after the interview.

Interviewed Oct 2009 in Schenectady, NY (took a day)
Interview was both technical and behavioral. Technical questions included how to create low-pass/high-pass/band-pass filters, and why hybrid vehicles are more fuel efficient given the inefficiencies of power generation and transmission. Behavioral questions included how I was able to compromise when working with individuals with different viewpoints. Job was offered on the spot, and about a month was given before the offer had to be accepted.

Interviewed May 2010 in Albany, NY (took a day)
The interviewer said he was from HR in GE called early morning, I didn't pick up, it went to voicemail, when i checked it and realized it was GE, I called back Immediatly. Set up a phone interview a couple hours later, and all in all. just questions about resume, CV, and some behavior questions. Nothing too difficult, but very tricky at the same time. Like "What is one of your weakness"

Interviewed Oct 2008 in Niskayuna, NY (took a day)
GE uses a classic behavioral interview approach: "Tell me about a time when you had a conflict with a colleage" 'Tell me about a time when you successfully overcame a challenge". "What is your greatest weakness" "Tell me about a time when.....etc.....etc". Although these types of interview questions are extremely trendy at the moment, the questions do not provide you with an adequate opportunity to showcase your unique talents, strengths, abilities, and skills. The questions, which started early in the morning and continued late into the evening, had little or nothing to do with my experience and qualifications. The process was very inefficient, tedious, and a bit degrading. Many of the interviewers were fresh out of school, had little or no technical experience, and seemed to be hostile towards the idea of hiring anyone with more experience than themselves.
