Interviewed Dec 2011 in Norwalk, CT (took 9 months)
I applied for the position online in June and several weeks later I received a telephone interview which, I was told, was very positive. Over two months passed before I was brought in for a day of 6 consecutive 45 minute interviews. Another two months passed with no contact whatsoever. Still seeing the job posted on the GE website, I contacted HR to find out if I was still being considered. I was told yes. It wasn't until Dec. that I was brought in to interview with someone who was just hired to be the immediate supervisor of the person who would get the position. At that interview, I was told that GE was looking to hire a new leader of that group, and I would be brought back to interview with that person as soon as he/she was hired. I went on the GE website in February to check my status only to find I was rejected in November, a month prior to my last in-person interview. I next contacted GE Capital by e-mail at the end of February and was informed that I was not being considered, with no other explanation. Yet another two months passed with no word and no status listed. I don't understand why they didn't have the decency to contact me rather than letting me keep my hopes up.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Stamford, CT (took 4+ weeks)
I received an initial interview through my university. The first interview was the more behavioral based interview. The interviewer was an alum of my university so she was nice and friendly and worked with me on many questions. This interviewed lasted about 30-35 minutes. This interview took place on a thursday and she got back to me the following monday telling me I was being recommended for the next round of interviews. The next round of interviews was on site in Connecticut. The first night they took the group of potential candidates to a orientation and overview of the company then out to dinner. The next morning was had to go through a many case study as a group, then a presentation of on a topic of choice, then 2 interviews.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Stamford, CT (took 3 weeks)
I applied for this internship through on-campus recruiting and several weeks later I was noticed that I received an interview. The interview was held on my universities campus and lasted 45 minutes. It was mostly behavioral and informational with a couple of technical questions. A week later I received an email saying that I was offered a second round interview in Connecticut. I was flown out across the country and had three 30 minute interviews along with a lunch with previous RMP interns who now work there full-time. The three onsite interviews were purely behavioral, and easier than the first round.

Negotiation Details
I accepted the offer I was given. I feel that negotiation is a relevant topic for full-time positions, as opposed to internships. GE is a very generous company.

I got the interview through a College or University and the interview consisted of a Background Check, a 1:1 Interview and a Phone Interview.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Stamford, CT (took 3 weeks)
GE uses a very behavioral strategy when it comes to hiring people for their IMLP program. I had one phone interview and another in person interview. They want to konw your organizational, leadership, and technical traits. I would say they would use their view on leadership to determine an individual's candidacy. It was all done on campus at my University. They are very interested in individuals that match the personality they are seeking. Most questions were behavioral and none were too difficult. Perhaps the biggest curveball was the "Where do you see yourself in five years" question. All other questions pertained to my on campus activities, classes, and previous experiences.

Started with a phone interview that was very basic. Mostly a behavioral interview without technical questions. Lots of team questions and time management. They really just want to see if you are a hard working, passionate individual who can communicate effectively.

Interviewed Jun 2011 in Norwalk, CT (took 8 weeks)
I initially struck up conversations by networking with a mutual contact with a junior level associate within the current group I work. He instructed me what his daily tasks are and what the environment is like at GE. He also informed me what to expect in the interviews as well as the type of candidates they are looking for. As the interview process began, I meet with 5 different senior level management (AVP, VP, SVP, MD) individually for 30 minutes. Each interview varied as some wanted to hear your background and discuss prior experiences as others wanted to see how much knowledge you knew about the company/industry/particular tasks that coincided with the position.
It turns out, I left a question open for interpretation and some people took my answer the opposite of what I originally intended. I followed up with the SVP who I would be working for after I heard from my junior level associate contact to clarify what was said. They brought me in for a 2nd round interview to try and redeem myself. It so happens, they appreciated how much I cared about the interview/position and took my clarifying email as a major positive. They offered me the position about 2 months after I applied.
During the interview, I was made to feel very comfortable and relaxed. Everyone in the office was very intrigued by my background and current MBA work. The work culture at GE is much different than a major investment bank as they take pride in training their employees (senior and junior level). It is a very team-based environment where possibilities are made to feel endless.

Negotiation Details
When I was waiting for the offer, I conducted some research of what other BAs in the industry were receiving and came up with a figure I thought would be appropriate to ask for. When I heard from GE, the offer exceeded what I planned to ask/negotiate by $8k. GE even offered to cover the remaining MBA classes I was taking at a local university before I could even ask. It was a very encouraging experience as I knew I was a valued asset to them right from the start.
I would advise doing as much research as possible regarding salary and benefits from a similar position at different companies within the industry. You can get a gauge as to what is appropriate to ask for so you are within reason if you attempt to negotiate your starting salary.

The interview consisted of a Background Check, a Drug Test, a 1:1 Interview and a Phone Interview.

Interviewed Nov 2010 in Norwalk, CT (took a day)
Applied online for several compliance positions. On the same day that I applied, my application was reviewed by the consulting agency that they use to screen out applicants. I was rejected immediately for one positon (manager position and contacted immediately for the analyst postion. The HR consulting firm scheduled a phone interview with me. That went well. They then sent the information to an HR person in GE who contacted me for an on-site interview. I travelled to Norwalk, CT and met with three people. The next day, I had a phone interview with a senior manager. The office was very nice and professional. Traveling to the office in Norwalk, CT on the Metro north is a bit of a process. First, the company offers a shuttle to and from the train station, but if you travel there during the times when the shuttle is not running (during the hours after 9am and before 4pm then you have to take a taxi.

Interviewed Nov 2010 in Stamford, CT (took 2 days)
After attending the info session on campus, talking with recruiters and applying online, the process began with an on-campus interview, followed by a phone screening that led directly to an on-site visit. First interview and phone screening were mostly behavioral. The on-site interview was a bit more intense, involving candidate presentations, case studies, as well as interviews. Definitely be prepared!

Interviewed Sep 2010 in Stamford, CT (took 3 weeks)
Initial phone interview was basic, establishing qualifications for the position.
One week later, received a request for a phone interview with the hiring authority lasting over an hour.
Based on that interview, I was scheduled for a three person, 3 hour "beauty pagent....
Interview 1 -
Challenging and designed to test my SME. No real feedback and discourse relating to my answers.
Interview 2 -
Incredibly superficial...Senior VP, with zero personality...most probing question was "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?"
Interview 3 -
Mild mannered, off-shore, financial analyst...was nice enough but clearly the "water boy" for the team.
Upon conclusion of the interview string...was pointed to the elevator bank...
Follow-up -
Within 12 hours, letters of confirmation and interest in the position and company to all three individuals.
No response...
Within 2 weeks, contacted the HR representative who had initiated the contact...left detailed message as to the subject of my call and requested a call-back inquiring as to the status of my candidacy.
No response...
Three weeks after the interview, sent a standard letter of continued interest in the position to the hiring authority, inquiring if the position was still available and if I was still being considered for the position.
In the spirit of professional courtesy, I asked for a candid evaluation of my answers to the situational scenarios presented at the initial interview.
No response...
Bottom Line? No longer interested in GE Money...I don't think they realize (or really don't care) that they projected a negative impression of their company to a prospective management candidate...
