Interviewed Jan 2012 in Louisville, KY (took 2+ weeks)
After having gone through the issue of work experience not actually equating to the perception of a degree, I pointedly asked the HR resource who did the initial phone screen to ensure that this was not an issue prior to continuing and wasting everyone's time.
So much for that. As soon as I said I did not have an Engineering degree the thoughts of an offer disappeared. After noting that I had come from the IT side of the world I may as well have hung up.
This after the hiring manager missed the first scheduled interview - due to not having it on his calendar. Then when he started this one, he didn't have a clue as to who I was or even sure what position I was applying for.
Disappointing.

Received and Accepted Offer

Interviewed Mar 2010 (took 4+ weeks)
I applied through my school's career services. I then attended the info session and was accepted for an interview. The face to face interview was all about leadership questions, and very specific questions about how I demonstrated leadership/etc. Make sure you think of a lot of different situations you've been in (class work/work experience/business societies/etc) that you can talk about in depth.
After that first interview, I heard about a week later that I was accepted for a second interview, and that I was assigned to the consumer and industrial business unit. They were very flexible with times, asking what was best with me, and the phone interview was easier than the first one. You need to act very interested in GE and make it clear that this is the company you want. A few days later I was given an offer, and only 5 days to either accept/decline.
