Interviewed Dec 2010 in Munich (Germany) (took 6 weeks)
Line manager emailed me a few days after submitting application to arrange a telephone interview. This took around an hour and mainly consisted of a detailed job description and questions about my research background. A few weeks later I received an invitation to a personal interview including a timetable and the request to prepare a presentation. They also recommended a hotel nearby and agreed to pay all travel expenses. The personal interview took place 6 weeks after the telephone conversation. It consisted of 4 parts: my presentation, an interview focusing on personality, a technical interview, and an interview with HR and the manager. The technical part was quite hard, the rest was easy going. I found the general atmosphere quite tense and not very welcoming. I wasn't shown any offices or labs, which was disappointing.

Interviewed Mar 2010 (took a day)
The hiring manager just asked a lot of technical questions about my historical research experience. Since I did those things by myself, they are a piece of cake. I hate behavior questions because you never know if you have the best answer.
