Interviewed Apr 2010 in Aurora, IL (took a day)
Internal interview for promotion. The interview process varies entirely by district manager. This DM asked very generic questions which she pulled from an online interview guide, despite the fact that both of us were long-time employees of GameStop, and we could have discussed company-specific topics. I interviewed one time, and spent the next two weeks hearing through the grapevine that I was chosen, but did not hear from the DM. When she finally called me to tell me I'd been selected, I was also told I'd be starting at my new location in two days.

Negotiation Details
There is no negotiation at GameStop. You are told what you will be earning, and if you decline then so be it. Location is also not negotiable, as you are always interviewing for a specific location; if you are not interested in a store thirty miles from home, you should not accept the interview.
Other Details
I applied In-Person.

Interviewed Jul 2010 in Waldorf, MD (took a day)
Put it like this. When you interview all they talk about is how you get to go to confrence and get free games and check out free games. They dont talk about when you take over a store how jacked up its gonna be. Or how they only hire store managers when they are going to fire one.

Interviewed Jul 2010 in Fairbanks, AK (took 3 weeks)
I was interviewed over the phone with the dm, then over the phone with another sm. I met the sm and interviewed 1:1/ Another phone interview with the dm followed by a f2f with him. I then interviewed with a dm from another district and then the dm called with an offer and another f2f. It was nerve wrecking.

Interviewed Feb 2009 in Pasadena, CA (took a day)
It was a very comfortable interview. They asked me questions about past experience, customer service, and selling experience. I was confident without being arrogant, and I always made sure I didn't go too long with y answers. Telling stories of previous job situations ang how they were handled helped them get a better picture of you.

Interviewed Jul 2011 in Colorado Springs, CO (took a day)
I was contacted via phone by the District Manager (voice mail). I returned his phone call the following day, leaving a voice mail and he was prompt in returning my call. We spoke briefly about my history and why I wanted to make the move to GameStop. We agreed on a face to face interview about 4 days out. The interview was very casual and I could tell that the DM was engaged in his business and truly cared about his people. We met in his base store, 1 pm interview, and talked for about one hour. The question and answer session was free flowing. It wasn't the usual, "Do you have any questions for me?" though that was asked. He asked questions, I answered. I asked questions, he answered. Very give and take. Very comfortable. If you have good communication skills, this process is extremely easy.

Interviewed Mar 2011 (took 3 weeks)
The first interview was a panel interview. They interviewed every position at the same time ie.: part time team members, assistant managers, store managers, and district managers in training. Everyone was asked the same questions and the order we answered questions varied. There was a variety of ages interviewing...I was probably overdressed!! It took about 2 weeks before I was contacted for a second interview by the District Manger. It was very informal...at a local Starbucks. The interview lasted for almost 2.5 hours...we had a very good conversation. About a week later I was contacted by the Regional Manager and we set up an early am interview time. She allowed me to basically interview her and then we chatted about my professional experiences and SALARY.
They deifinitely have a laid back culture. They are in the midst of diversifying their upper store management to ensure their workforce reflects their customer base. Make sure you do your research if you are not a HARDCORE GAMER!
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
I chose to decline the offer because they couldn't match my salary requirements based on the sales volume of the stores available.
Other Details
The interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview and a Group/Panel Interview.
