Interviewed Feb 2010 in Kansas City, KS (took 2 days)
Phone interview with HR was routine, mostly general questions about your skills. They definitely ask, "Talk about a time you were met with a challenge during your job or a past project. How did you deal with it?"
They flew me to Kansas City to do the interview. I met with the HR person I talked to over the phone for about 15 minutes and she repeated some of the questions she asked over the phone, but she seemed kind of frazzled and was just reading off of a list. This time there were more personality questions like, "Rate in importance: salary, job, family, etc..."
After that I met with two managers--one from their technical team, another that oversees user interface design--and was throughly grilled by them or two hours. They give you a bottle of water. Throughout the interview they're typing away at their laptops and don't really give you anything except more questions. They ask detailed questions about your skills and experiences. Bring your portfolio.
After bring interviewed for almost 1 and a half hours, they present a skills test for you to perform in half an hour. It isn't anything too hard, just produce a pen and paper prototype of a user interface for, say, an interactive map at a mall and how would that look on a mobile device. I think they are looking for communication skill here and explaining why you chose this feature or how you would remediate a problem for such and such.
After I flew back from Kansas, they took forever to get back to me. I followed-up with them twice but didn't get a response.
All in all, all personnel were pleasant. No curveballs, just straight questions about skills, portfolio.

Interviewed Apr 2010 in Olathe, KS (took 6 days)
Got a call from HR recruiter asking to set up a phone interview. Had phone interview 2 days later, several behavioral questions, and a checklist of technical questions that recruiter typed my responses. Interview seemed positive. Deferred nearly all of my questions to the potential followup interview, then declined to offer said interview. Rejection e-mails came for all open positions I had applied to, as if they hit the "flush candidate down toilet" button on me in the applicant database. No reason given.

I applied to the software engineering job through the companies career section. I got a call from HR representative asking for dates for telephone interview. Questions were more of HR type. Why Garmin ? Salary expectation,... I was able to pass through the phone interview and they called me for on-site interview. I had three 1:1 interview with technical lead that lasted for 3 hours. Interviewed Mar 2010 in Olathe, KS (took a day)
The HR person went over the job description and just verified everything on the resume. Didn't ask any questions that were not resume related. Then I met with manager, who interviewed me for over an hour. It went great, she seemed VERY enthusiastic that I was young. Stated they like to mold people.
She did seem every interested in my current job and vacation policy, benefits, and why I was not happy there. Def liked when I complimented Garmin on any level. My interview was a little different than the engineers they usual hire since this was an office salary position.
It was between me and two other people and I did not get the position.

Interviewed Sep 2008 in Kansas City, MO (took 1 week)
The HR asked behavior questions first and decided whether it was good enough to go to the second round.
1. what are you doing now?
2. why do you want to leave your company?
3. why do you want to apply for Garmin?
4. Do you have any difficulty in your previous work? How do you solve the problem?
5. Have you ever had problem with your co-work? How do you solve the problem?
If you say no, then she will continue to question you ...
6. What do you have knowledge about this position?
Over all, HR question is very tough, and she will make the decision first. If you fail in the first round, you will never have technical question, and never meet hire manager.

Interviewed Dec 2009 in Kansas City, MO (took 3 days)
Review process consisted of initial phone screening followed by in depth phone interview. The next step is a face to face interview where group interview and skills test are administered. College transcripts are requested but not discussed at interview. The process has many gaps in between each step. A template email indicating company cannot extend an offer is sent. This is very vague. Since all qualifications were met and no information about hiring another candidate was shared, any areas where skills do not match or personality does not match remain a mystery.
