Interviewed Nov 2010 (took 6 days)
The first interview was a one-on-one interview with a high-ranking executive from the sales department(very nice guy, down to earth). After I passed that interview, I was interviewed by three other senior ranking executives via phone interview which also went really well and gave me a good impression of the company

Interviewed Oct 2009 (took 2 days)
Everything was very well planned throughout the interviewing process. The opportunity to ask questions and network with current employees and other candidates was always available. The people and the site was very inviting and the overall experience was steps ahead of competitive companies that I had interviewed with that fall.

Interviewed Oct 2009 (took 2 months)
This was an undergraduate recruitment posting at my university. I applied in September, and my first interview took place on campus in October. It was with a more senior member of the sales team and was about 30 mins total. The conversation was professional but very casual, and a good opportunity to showcase your personality, which is really key in a sales role where you will be dealing with customers regularly. I was informed of a second interview at the head office in Mississauga, Ontario about 4 weeks later. Second interview consisted of 5 separate back to back interviews along with lunch out with a more junior employee. Each interviewer had a unique area of interest relating to the position and asked a lot of questions about experiences in summer jobs or on projects in school.

Interviewed Oct 2010 in Minneapolis, MN (took a day)
My initial contact was made through alumni contacts in the company. Once my resume reached the Promotion Marketing department I was offered a phone interview with an associate. It seems to me GMI weighs in-house recommendations very heavily.

Interviewed Sep 2010 (took 2 months)
Discussed with the recruiter via email about the opportunity once the position information was shared. Recruiter completed first screening. Initial screening questionnaire on experience, background, employment situation, and interests required as well as current resume. Initial interview with manager and director, if those went well, next phase would be on-site visit. Following the onsite visit, expectation of an offer being made. Looking for entrepreneurial type person, however for the organization environment, this could not be supported due to the multiple levels of structure that existed and expected models that needed to be followed. Relationship maturity was a definite requirement, however, management oversight would still be heavy due to position only being an individual contributor and not a managed team role. Feedback was not offered for the position interview so unsure as to the perception or reason for the determination of no offer.

Interviewed Oct 2010 in Minneapolis, MN (took a day)
Asked some basic questions concerning what my career goals are and how I would react in certain situations. Interviewer asked if I knew specific Excel and Powerpoint functions. The interviewer was probably 2 years older than me (I am a graduate student). She was pompous and took notes on a laptop the entire time. She did not respond to anything that I said. Later I found out that General Mills did not hire anyone except people who had interned with them the summer before.

Interviewed Jan 2011 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took 3 days)
Two back to back interviews with lots of technical questions about brand management. One of the interviews went really well, the other not so much (tougher interviewers). Haven't heard yet, but will in the next week or so. People were very professional but seemed really nice. They tried to really grasp my background and asked me a number of situational questions (Tell me about a time...). The culture of the company seems great, and they said the teams are very collaborative.

Interviewed Oct 2010 in Minneapolis, MN (took 2 days)
Part one: Had an on-campus interview with two recruiters both working in the IT department of General Mills. I got this interview from speaking with the recruiter at a resume critique and at a career fair. This part of the process involved some very basic technical questions, overall I didn't feel too challenged. Things like What is a static method (C++)? What is the finally part of try-catch-finally (although I pointed out this was Java and not C++)? What are the advantages of using CSS instead of just HTML? Why would you not use tables in HTML for layout? In general I got a good vibe here and it was easy
Part two: flew out to Minneapolis. Went out to eat with a developer and three other intern candidates to ask some informal questions (not part of the interview). Then had four different interviews the next day, plus informal conversations with people at breakfast, lunch, and a coffee break. There was also a standard intelligence test we took (I forget the name but it is very common and athletes take it, I'm sure you can find out, but it's nothing to worry about).
My first actual interview was with two people and it was the "dreaded" technical part. That's how they chalked it up, really I felt it was easy. The questions were pretty simple (no coding). Examples: What is a buffer overflow? Give examples of STL. Why would you use serverside vs. clientside code? Some SQL questions, but I indicated I only had a little informal experience.
Then I met with a higher up who showed me some things he was working on for the iPad. He mostly asked about technology trends I noticed and was kind of figuring out how much I cared and kept up with technology.
The remaining two interviews were the HR style (they thought it was the easy part, I personally disagree, but to each his own). It was pretty typical with things like teamwork, accomplishments, helping others.
Overall, it was a good interview. They treat you very well there and everyone wants to help you. The interviews themselves are pretty standard and I didn't have any challenges.

Reason for Declining
On one hand I had a very positive experience. I felt that General Mills treats its employees well and everyone I met was very nice. But, I did have many reservations. For one thing, I felt like I was a small part of a corporate giant, that isn't really where I see myself I'd also like to find a more software-focused company. On the technology side, it felt like they moved at a snails pace, using VB.net and SAP. I'd rather use C++ or C# if going the .net route. In general I didn't feel like there was a ton of openness to adapting new technologies. Still, if you are interested in working in a more corporate setting, or want to move your way up or around the company, they have a ton of opportunities. It wasn't for me.

Interviewed Nov 2010 (took a day)
The interviews themselves went well - organized, with a broad mix of backgrounds. However, it's the post-interview process that I had a problem with: no communication at all, even after an email follow up and several phone messages to the HR manager. Nothing. Why put the organization out so much and not say one word to the candidate. Even if it was only a "thanks, but we're going in a different direction".
