Interviewed Feb 2012 in Zeeland, MI (took 2 weeks)
I interviewed in three buildings at the Gentex complex and moved from group to group, sometimes interviewing with one person sometimes two and I was taken out to lunch. I was asked typical questions that were behavioral and technical. Gentex also likes to ask some personal questions to gauge whether you are a good fit for the area around Gentex, like hobbies. They will interview a group of candidates then hold a meeting to decide if anyone that you interviewed with wants to recruit you. Overall it was a very good experience, nice people with great attitudes.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Zeeland, MI (took 3 weeks)
I had a phone interview with an HR rep, followed by a phone interview by an Engineering Manager. After I passed that I was invited to go on site. On site they had about 4 tech interviews with engineers of varying designations and an HR interview.
The technical interviews consisted of C programming questions, bit manipulations, static volatile keywords, ability to identify memory leaks in C code.
The HR interview was behavioral

Interviewed Apr 2010 in Zeeland, MI (took 4 weeks)
Gentex will tell you up front that their hiring process is long and slow. I had two 1-hour long phone interviews, followed by a total of 12 hours of 1-on-1 onsite interviews. That was followed by a phone call from the engineering director to review how things went.
The time spent talking with HR was odd. They go quite deep into your childhood and family life. Questions about your parents and their occupations, did you have a normal childhood, etc. The questions seemed somewhat illegal.
The talks with engineers was typical of most interviews. I did get a sense of arrogance though.

Negotiation Details
I received a verbal offer over the phone before it was approved by the CEO....yes, the CEO has to approve EVERYTHING. I made the mistake and accepted verbally. I should have made them send me the letter before accepting, because I would have had more time to think about countering. The verbal offer caught me off guard, and I negotiated very little. I did get a $1500 sign-on bonus. I should have pushed for a higher base. Gentex sells their quarterly profit sharing structure as a reason to keep your base lower...don't buy. Negotiate a base salary that is competitive with the market.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Zeeland, MI (took a day)
I initially met the recruiter at a job fair. They set up an interview with me by email in the following weeks. Overall the interviews went well. Not many hard questions. It consisted of 3 separate hour long interviews each in a different building. Gentex seems to be a pretty impressive company and seem to value their employ's a lot. It's been a week and a half and i have not heard back from them.

Interviewed Jan 2011 in Zeeland, MI (took 1 week)
I applied online and the next day I received a call scheduling an early morning interview. At the interview I was asked about my skills, my job history, and how I felt about overtime. At the end of the interview I was asked to go take a drug test and sign up with the temp agency you have to go through first. I went to the temp agency and was required to take a short IQ test. I then had to take a packet of papers to the drug testing facility and take the test. I then waited about a week before they called me and told me I had passed. I was told to attend an assessment and had to come in for a week from 8am-3pm. The assessment test was a series of motor-skills test and specific job techniques. you have to handle glass and cases for mirrors. The first half of the week you just have to perform the tests, but in the 2nd half you must time your self and gain a consistency. A person then tests you and times you, recording all of your results. At the end of the week they told us that they will go over our results and we should expect a call within a couple of days. The next day I got the call saying I was hied as a temp and I started the following Monday.

Negotiation Details
You are not able to negotiate anything. Even for salary jobs you are given no alternative options. you accept what they offer or you decline the job. My advice would be that you are confident in working 60 hours a week (minimum) and do not mind that you will have MAYBE two days off a month. The overtime pay is great, so if you're more of a money thinker, then you would appreciate this offer.

Interviewed Oct 2010 in Zeeland, MI (took 2 weeks)
Phone interview: Typical with basic questions regarding past experience, lasted 30 minutes.
Live interview: Schedule was changed at last minute due to 4 interviewers not showing up.
Lasted almost 9 hours and met individually with 8 participants.
Entire interview was based upon psychological questions, barring a few basic questions of likes and dislikes.
Typical interview questions: Tell me about a time in which you ameliorated a bad situation.
Advice: I interviewed for a different position than I applied. Be sure to reiterate the described position title with each interviewer. I had the strong feeling that 7 of the interviewers were not sure what position was being interviewed.
One of my interviewers thought I was interviewing for a software position even after I stated the position, and asked me software questions.
They vote on their likes and dislikes, if more than a couple people dissent, you are not hired.
