Interview Details –
The hiring process took just less than 2 months overall. I initially applied and had a phone interview with a third party recruiter within a week and a half of applying. I then waited for 3 or 4 weeks to hear back that I was going to interview with the regional manager in my area. Finally, I was called back a week later to have a final interview with an HR Director in the Tampa, FL corporate offices. A week and a half later I was offered the position. Here are the general descriptions of each interview:
1st Interview: It was technically a phone screen with a third party recruiter who was typing my answers as we talked. It lasted just less than 1 hour. Questions were fairly general and were often based around teamwork. An example question would be: "Give me a time when you were a leader of a group and had to deal with someone who wasn't pulling their weight. What did you do in the situation?"
2nd Interview: Face-to-face with regional manager and with a Gerdau HR generalist who conference called in from another location in Canada. They asked me personalized questions about my past work experience based on my resume and education. It was a breath of fresh air in comparison to canned questions dealing with hypothetical scenarios (which was mainly done in the phone interview).
3rd Interview: It was a phone interview with the HR Director and lasted less than 20 minutes. At this point, they were making sure I was a good fit for the company and they didn't find a need to fly me out for an in person interview. He asked a few basic questions like why I want to work for Gerdau.
Interview Question – Tell me about a time or project you worked on when you felt you did a great job but didn't receive feedback indicating you did as well as expected. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – I was offered what I asked for. In the end, it was take it or leave it but if the interviews went well, you should have an idea of what you will be able to get anyway.

Interview Details – Hiring process was different. Made initial contact at a recruiting conference. Months later, after I had crossed them off my list of possibilities, I got called out of the blue and asked to come interview. I had 7 interviews in one day at the corporate office and flew back home that same night. Two days later they called me and offered me the job. There was no salary negotiation, just a take it or leave it.
Interview Question – I did my third interview all in Spanish. They wanted to test my language abilities. Evidently I passed. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – There was no negotiation. It was take it or leave it.

Interview Details –
I was very surprised I moved as far as I did in the process. From the outset, I got the feeling my salary was going to be a problem for them. However, they moved me through the process.
I felt I had a great interview with the hiring manager and I was asked to interview onsite with others (5). The only person that posed SAR type interview questions during the campus visit was the HR Business Partner.
I left that day believing I was not going to be a good fit. Additionally, the people I met with had given me the impression that money was really tight and things were done on the cheap. This further confirmed my suspicion that my salary was going to be a problem.
I was surprised to get a request for personal references the next week. This led me believe I was moving forward in the process. Three days later I was asked to take a Predictive Index survey. And then nothing…..Seems like the PI should have been administered earlier in the process. This could have saved them some man-hours, skipping the interview process, unless salary was the issue all along.
No sour grapes, I wish them the best.
Interview Question – The first question with the Talent Acquisition specialist was the most difficult. What is your current salary? View Answer
