I discussed a case where I had taken a subordinate who was having a hard time getting up the nerve to disagree with colleagues or superiors - even when she believed that she was correct and they were in error. I described how I had worked to improve her self-confidence, so that she could disgree politely but firmly with those who she felt were in error -- and how she could better present her case to prove to their satisfaction that she was right.
