Burn both ends of Rope 1 and one end of Rope 2. When Rope 1 is burnt out, you know 30 minutes have passed, and Rope 2 will have 30 minutes left. Immediately light the other end of Rope 2, which should then take 15 minutes.

Given 2 ropes, both will burn entirely in one hour ..How will you know how much the rope is burned in 45 mins? Ropes can burn slow or fast but will take exact 1 hour to burn completely
