Office & Financial Manager Interview

Office & Financial Manager
Accra (Ghana)

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 2 months - interviewed at Gold Fields.

Interview Details – I had already worked with one of the capital holders of the company. He said he needed me in Ghana, because he was going to invest there and wanted a person of his confidence to be in Accra. We agreed the terms and after a few months I went to Accra. It was a simple process due the fact that we already knew each other.

Interview Question – The main problem, in my view, was that the top management didn't have a strategy, and wasn't prepared for the initial difficulties that we found. Africa is not easy for westerns ... a simple bank operation (paying salaries for instance) could take all day. Also the government is corrupt and we needed to pay for everything and to everyone. Anyway, back to top, the management was adrift and didn't stick with the initial plan. Instead of doing the mining, they decided to loan the machines, and that, for me, was a big mistake.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – The offer was very good so I just accepted.
