Interviewed Jan 2010 in Salt Lake City, UT (took a day)
The phone interview went well. I was invited to go to SLC for an interview. I already had another job offer, but I thought that I'd at least see what Goldman Sachs was like.
The first thing that I noticed was the lack of cubes in the work area or any walls at all. The developers sat at long tables shoulder to shoulder with their fellow workers.
I met with a bunch of managers, some of whom were recently promoted developers. What I heard about their internal systems scared me a bit. I got the sense that their systems were slapped together and extremely outdated as far as approaches and technologies used.
They were looking for worker bee engineer and could not understand why I would be interested in the position. In truth, by the end of the day, I was not interested.
Afterwards, it took them four plus months to reimburse me for the expenses.

Received and Declined Offer
|
Interviewed Jul 2009 in New York, NY (took 3 weeks)
Spoke in 4 rounds with about a total of 50 people.
Seems Goldman's process is very longwinded, involving a lot of people not that relevant to the
actual position.
Lot's of overlap between questions. Quality of pepole varies a lot. Some did not do a good job at selling
Goldman. Pretty cool place with some smart people, but I was surprised how they are very good at
one thing and average at another ( the technology infrastructure is very uneven).
Recomned you try this place, but you need stamina for the interviews.

Reason for Declining
