I applied online and the process took 4 weeks - interviewed at Google in June 2013.
Interview Details –
Found the job posting on indeed or linkedin and applied. didn't think much of my submission and forgot about it. a month later, i got an email from a recruiter.
1. 30 min phone talk with recruiter
2. writing assignment (Prompt: We want hire more liberal arts majors, but have gotten feedback that candidates aren't sure what opportunities are right for their skills. Write a Google+ post and/or talking points that recruiters can share with this group to address this need.) They liked my writing sample, and let me know the next day they wanted another interview.
3. 30 min phone interview with a google screener to assess how i think and solve problems.
4. didn't receive an email back for a week and a half. finally, the recruiter got back to me via email to schedule a short phone call the next morning. i figured it was a rejection, but still had hope... it was unfortunately a rejection and she told me that the position was filled by an internal candidate...
Interview Question – i expected more out of the box brain teasers, which i studied for. the google screener put me at ease and didn't try to trick me. 1. describe a time when you had to explain a complex idea to an audience. 2. pretend you are making a slideshow for an all hands meeting to highlight the success of your department. how would you go about this? 3. what obstacles do you see along the way? 4. how would you make your presentation different if it were to be shared externally?
