Interviewed Nov 2011 (took 2 weeks)
Great phone screen with the hiring manager, and she asked me to come in for a 1:1. Great conversation at the in person interview, then radio silence. She never called/emailed/etc. Did not reply to multiple attempts to contact her. Left a very bad impression, especially since I left work to attend the interview to not get back to me at all.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Philadelphia, PA (took 5 days)
My interview was set up by a current employee, and I never heard anything from the individual who was hiring, no call, no email, nothing, even after they had my resume and job app with contact into. But they did want me to interview in the next 5 days. That should have been my first clue there, no personal contact. All scheduling and arrangements were made through the existing employee, to no fault of their own.
Durring the interview, I had the opportunity to hear more about what they did, verse what the company was about and what their expectation was. I only got that after I found the chance to jump in and ask. I found it interesting that the majority of the interview was about their contributions and not about the actual position. Prior to leaving and after I did get to disclose my career history and what I was looking to bring to the table, I asked if there were any concerns or questions as to being a good fit. To which I was reassured, there were none at all, and the next step would be talking to HR and then another corporate individual I will not name, but I was given specifics with names and dates. Fast forward another 5 days after the day I was ensured a call either way........ I am always glad when you get a glimpse into what could be your future....in this case...poor leadership.
In my many years of multi-unit management and being on the other side of the interview table, I always knew that no matter the outcome of my decision to hire someone, when I said I would be contacting everyone to know my decision and even gave them the time frame, I stood by that. I knew that if I was taking an hour to bring them to my office and speak to them, I owed them the 3 minutes to let them know the result. I also knew that my personal actions represented an extension of the company I worked for. What is unfortunate, is that others do not practice that same method.

Interviewed May 2011 (took 4+ weeks)
Gymboree uses a style of interviewing that makes you answer very specific questions with very specific answers. They don't want to know what you would do, but rather what you have done. They are behavioral questions. My experience watching other people interview is that qualified applicants have been turned away because they didn't have "the right" answers, which really means they didn't answer specifically enough. The process is long for management and it is the same questions over and over from several different people. Store managers have very little say in hiring of any keyholders.

The district manager wasn't too bright in negotiations. She told me what the store can afford before asking me what I was looking for. Good for me, as I would have low balled myself.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in San Francisco, CA (took 3 months)
Just like any other interview, start with a call with the recruiter and follow by 2 phone calls with the hiring managers. And then I was requested to work on a scenario interview (a case study kind of questions) and I need to provide my feedback in about a week. Then follow by a face to face interview (I am from out of town and maybe the local candidates will have a little advantage on this one)

The offer to my position is fair and inline with the market given the current market situation (Oct 2011), I think it is fair. They also offer some sign on bonus as for my relocation uses where I didn't expect it at all as it stated on the job ad that this position is not entitled with any relo assistance. Anyhow, all in all, it is a nice and positive experience.
