Interviewed May 2010 in Houston, TX (took 2 months)
The interview process was drawn out over 2 months. About four informal and formal interviews. Corporate culture is very community and family based. They were nice but I don't feel HEB is accepting of outside industry experience though they say they are. Nobody ever responded to thank you emails.

Interviewed Jun 2008 (took 2 weeks)
Interview process began with phone interview with HR. This consisted of mostly behavioral questions (e.g. Tell me a time when you had a conflict with a coworker).
After this interview, I was brought in for a group interview and two one-on-one interviews. Lots of questions about working in a team environment. I got the impression they liked people who put the team above themselves. All of the people I talked to were very nice and easy to talk to.

Interviewed May 2010 in San Antonio, TX (took 1 week)
I have been watching the HEB website for a few months waiting for a Produce Manager or Asst Mgr job to open up. In early May a job was listed for a produce Lead which is "highest ranking" clerk. I applied and a week later received an email asking me to come in for an interview the next day. I was excited about this job and showed up early for the interview. The interview was going great! I was asked about my job history and why I wanted to work for HEB. I was shown a series of pictures and told to state the first thing I noticed; Bathroom with towels on the floor, happy customers, old man with a full cart and no help. After this was where to interview turned sour. This interview was not for a full time produce Lead that was listed on the website. It was an interview for a part time clerk.

Interviewed Nov 2009 in Houston, TX (took 1 week)
Minimalistic phone interview; standard for a full-cycle typical recruiter to have with potential candidate. There was much to be desired since I'm a recruiter myself; he could have easily made an effort, because we are in the same industry and role, to establish a relationship in order to share best practices, rapport, and future assistance to one another. I would not say that should have been the case had I NOT been in precisely the same role as he is currently in at H-E-B. But, it's crucial that when you're a recruiter, there is a certain 'gentleman's agreement' when you speak to another fellow recruiter....

Interviewed Aug 2008 in Austin, TX (took a day)
I turned in my application (it's now online) and about a week later I received a call from the Service Admin and she scheduled me to come in for an interview. I came in and she interviewed me in the coffee shop area. I spoke to her, her supervisor, and the manager of the entire store. They ask simple questions (Why do you want to work here? Why should we hire you? etc). It's very easy to get a job there.
