tell me about yourself. your hobby. why software and IT etc.
questions from digital systems, how it differs from analog?
different between c and c++. memory allocation etc.
some programmings on c/c++.
basic of data structures. stack,queue link list etc.
my advice to candidate is to be confident and brief.

Initial apttitude test will be conducted by calling btech pass outs .
this test is bit lengthy but not much tough. making average attempt with patience can easily clear it.
second round is group discussion with technical topic. people with good communication and interactive skill will be selected. most of the filtering happens here. around 2 of 10 will be selected in this round.
last round is HR which is very casual and almost every one will clear this

The Interview process did not start out well. The pre-placement presentation was taken by an "HR Manager" who had a faulty grammar and made such glaring mistakes that the initial impression that my fellow students had of HCL wasnt good. But the standard of the interviewers increased dramatically from there.
All the eligible candidates (60%+ from 10th) were lead to the auditorium where the Aptitude Test was conducted. The aptitude test wasnt that tough and mainly consisted of basic logical reasoning and language skills.
Almost 25% of the total students who gave the test were selected for the next round. This was a two part interview - 1st was a test of our programming skills and the 2nd was a test of our patience. The technical interview was conducted by a young and more active person who was clearly a good interviewer. The personal interviewer was a sleepy and lethargic old man (on 2nd thoughts, maybe he was meant to be that ways..to test the applicants attitude towards indifferent bosses :-)... ). I cleared both the interviews as I'm a good programmer and because I already had a couple of offer letters in my pocket was as relaxed as can be, a point that the old interviewer easily noticed.
All in all I got the job. And now just waiting for the offer letter which I'm supposed to get this month...
