the man was very courteous and friendly. It was a casual interview. I was very pleased with the outcome. I had already spoken to several people before the interview at the company and they already knew me pretty well.

I interviewed for this promotion over the phone (as the position was to be remote with my manager in a different city) and was given a verbal offer the same day based on a good recommendation. I was told to wait up to a week for HR to get its ducks in a row - after 2 weeks of nothing, I called HR and was told I was not offered the position, despite having been offered the position - we had agreed on a level of compensation and everything. I had already shifted a number of my current responsibilities to my colleagues, as HR had previously sent an email to my current manager letting them know I would be offered the new position.

A corporate recruiter came across my resume on Monster.com. After a brief phone interview (basic questions), they sent me the job description and setup an interview with the hiring manager. It was a very general interview (about 20-30 minutes), they introduced me to another manager for a brief introduction and to talk about the position. I followed up with thank you cards to both managers. I also was able to talk to the previous Business Analyst and ask them additional questions about the job over the phone after the in-person interview. (I think he had a say in the interview process as well) A day or two later I was made an offer.

Negotiation Details
I negotiated to the very top of the salary range, any more would have required VP approval, but I didn't want to get on anyone's radar. The salary was pretty average (but kind of low) compared to other Business Analysts in the area. I always say that I negotiate for myself the same you would want for me to negotiate for your company.
